had some thoughts...he thought after last night's game he would put the colts above the pats because he saw watson run the ball on them and when brady was pressured he was frustrated.
Then he went on to talk about BB at the pro bowl and how he was teaching and coaching which was unbelievable. Said BB and manning spent more time together he has ever seen a coach and player spend time in pro bowl. tirico shared his story from palmer who told them that BB was as intense as ever before a pro bowl game walk thru like it was the SB.
somewhat interesting stuff..
its on the espn page http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/index
its free for now to give a listen..

I don't understand the bit about Watson running the ball on them...I mean, wasn't that partly the game plan, to not worry about the run? And the Bengals still didn't get anywhere...am I missing something?

It is always nice to hear BB-related bits, though. I am sure that of all people there at the game, Manning was in some ways the most intrigued to talk to the coach, given how cerebral they both are, and how good BB was at frustrating Manning's play, until recently...

Well his thinking was the manning and addai will finish the drives which the bengals couldnt..That is partially true if we play the same style of defense against the colts.

I think your right, our goal was to let them run to a degree. If Mort thinks that letting a RB get 53 yards during a game is something to be concerned about while were trying to defend a strong passing attack, more power to him. Almost sounds like he's reaching for an excuse to place the Colts in the #1 spot, hey, good for him. Anyway, the Rankings are just people's opinions, nothing more. Remember, lots of these people thought Randy was going to be a bust !

You aren't missing anything. The 4.2 YPC is solid but not awe inspiring, not the key part of stopping the Bengals and three starters were gone from our defense.

Mort, Mort, Mort, you silly boy.

The more I hear from Mort and John Clayton, the more I realize how genuinely F-ing stupid they are. Really. Just ridiculous. How do they have jobs?

It'll be interesting to see how Bill will use his players against the Colts. I'm wondering if Addai is going to be in game shape, they have the Bucs and the Jags to play, both mean defenses.

Exactly the way I saw it.

It was BB's way of getting into Manning's head for the next game. He was probably feeding manning some gibberish and Manning is totally soaking it in when all it is was BB playing mind games with Frankenstein to learn more about what makes him tick.

Wait a second...Watson did average-solid rushing for 50 yards while the Colts let up like 150 yards rushing in the first half. Mortenson is a piece of trash.

Bengals against Pats on Monday: 57 rushing yards, 3.8 YPC
Broncos against Colts on Sunday: 226 yards rushing, 6.1 YPC

Mort's conclusion: The Colts are better than the Pats because the Bengals ran too well against the Pats.

The Lesson? Mort is an idiot.

looking objectively..it is going to be interesting about what he said.if they let addai run and defend the deep ball similar to that against the bengals, you would expect the colts to be more successful , isnt it ?

Pete Prisco of CBS sportsline puts the Colts #1 too. Of course, he also wrote before last nights game "first to 50 wins" completely disregarding the best defense in the league obviously. What a joke.

BTW, I heard some guys grilling Cal Ripken for his TBS performance last night in that playoff game? Any idea what he did? Obviously I was watching our game.

dont get me wrong...colts run D has always been like this except a few games and they still win. For them giving the opponents 100-150 yards is okay as long as their own offense scores TD.
For the pats if they give a 100 yard rusher its a huge deal for the defense.Agreed now the pats offense can score on every drive but the colts off has done it for yrs under this model.
Colts keep giving up 150 yards and keep winning ..why ? they should be credited for something...

morts a moron...the pats werent worried bout the run they knew they could get away with lettin watson get in the lil four or five yard runs here n there. The Pats gameplan was to shutdown there passing attack and that exactly what they did.... bengals 0-7 on 3rd downs thats all I need to say bout that..

mort talking out of his ass again and ballwashing manning... the usual

Another point about Watson's supposed good game against the Pats D -- 8 of his 13 rushes were for 2 runs or less, none of them on short yardage situations. In other words, the vast majority of the times he went to rush the ball, he didn't get the Bengals much.

He had a few good runs, mostly towards the end when the Pats were guarding against the quick score.

I wish I could tell what happened in a game by just looking at stats the way Mort can.

Even just by looking at stats I can see that half of Watson's yards came on one drive, half way through the 3rd quarter, when we had a 17 point lead, which ended in a FG.

The whole problem with what Mort said is that he said based on how the Bengals were able to run the ball, and convert some third downs, the Colts COULD beat the Pats. Looking at it from that angle is totally fallacious. You don't rank a team higher than another team based on if they COULD beat them. You rank them based on if they SHOULD beat them. If they played 10 games who would win 9/10. It kind of shows how ingrained it is in Mort's head that the PATs are the best, that he's approaching it saying "I may have found a weakness that the Colts can take advantage of so therefore they are better." Well let's reverse that logic. Let's look at passing yards given up by the Colts against ****tier teams and say "the PATs could finish those drives." I'm personally getting sick of all these rankings. They're so arbitrary and irrelevant at this point that I might stop checking them. After all, except for Mort, it seems that until one team loses pretty much every site except CBS has the PATs #1 and Colts #2 every week.

Okay,

here's what jumps out at me. Every time an opponent gets into the red zome, they score a touch down against us. That bothers me. Now, so far it hasn't been a big deal, because there have only been 6 times in the 4 games when that has happened. If we keep the opponent out of the red zone, they at most get a field gola, and not often that.

However, that ain't gonna cut the mustard against a top-flight team like Indy. Somehow, that area needs to be addressed, and that right soon, because if not, at some point that's gonna come back and bite us. You can bet that other teams will start to game-plan to just get inside the 20, knowing that, if they do, odds are they will score.

Respects,
