SportsCenter on ESPN
Chris Mortensen: Bill Belichick called Peyton Manning the Friday before the Super Bowl to wish him well, and today we asked both men about it.
Peyton Manning: I truly appreciated it. He left me a voicemail Friday morning. We were at a meeting...it was just a very sincere voicemail kind of wishing me luck and wishing our team luck. I truly appreciated it very much. Another head coach of another team, a team that we've had a lot of history with, took the time to call me. I truly appreciated it.
Bill Belichick: He did that to me a couple times, and one time spoke to my daughter because he couldn't get me. I've always had a lot of affection for him, other than when we play against him. Obviously it's tough to compete against him; I'm sure he feels the same way. But just as an athlete and a person and as a player I have tremendous respect for him. [If] we couldn't do it then I hope he does
and everyone was up in arms about BB not shaking manning's hand after the game

I hear they will be doing a snickers commercial together soon.

I don't think everybody was up and arms. Just a few media types who seem to be trying to drag BB down to their level. I hate sports columnists/analists in general. They seem to think that they are more important than the game.

The one thing people don't understand about BB is that he respects a winner as much as he respects winning.BB is all about excellence.
You're right . . . but it still makes me ill to think of our Bill rooting for that . . . that . . . thing.

Oh, c'mon!

Where in that passage does it resolve the question of why BB was so impersonal with Manning after the game?

Sure he can be civil when given a couple weeks to collect himself, but why is that special.

The moments just after a loss is when your true self comes out.

That thing? PM is a human being and football player, just like anyone on the pats. Sure, we love seeing him throw his hands up, look disgusted like hes about to cry when hes frustrated against us, but he paid his dues and deserves what he got. Hopefully it goes back to what we were use to next year.

BB probably can't stand him or that franchise anymore than we can.
BB may appreciate excellence but there's probably more to all this show of the love lately than meets the eye.

peyton does do some mentoring to other qbs in the league during the offseason , he's a pretty good guy despite my hatred for his brother and dad.

And that's why I like him.
