The Scenerio:

Pick #1, Detriot Lions: Aaron Curry, LB.

Curry is the most NFL-ready player in the 2009 draft and after the Lions went winless in 2008, the pressure is on to perform this season. Curry is a blue-collar player that fits in with the Detriot mindset and will be deemed a value if he signs for much less than Stafford's $35 mil plus bonus.

With Stafford, Lions fans will likely have to remain patient. Stafford, being a junior, would benefit from sitting on the bench. But for the Lions to take a QB, they will have to face the mistakes of taking Joey Harrington; a ghost that doesn't seem easily exorcised.

------

With Stafford and Sanchez on the board going into "pick #2", the Redskins have a great opportunity to move up and grab the guy they want. ASSUMING the 'Skins can get Sanchez, Jason Campbell could be traded to the Lions and battling Culpepper for the starting position.

The lesson learned from Miami last year was exactly this. Don't reach for players when the needs are plentiful. Get talent where talent deserves to be selected. Jake Long was one of the elite tackles last year and came cheaper than Matt Ryan did. Fortunately, Pennington was released and Miami had an opening. With two teams walking away with Stafford and Sanchez, a Pennington like player will be on the market and may be safe bets than a number one overall QB.
