Under ERFA, what does 'completely free' translate into ? No rules whatsoever ?

Perhaps it might be appropriate to have a paragraph about plain Free Agent (FA) if there is such a thing.

I would find it helpful to have paragraphs commenting on 'waived' and 'released'.

Under RFA and URFA, for any phrases 'receives xxxx pick', perhaps it would be informative to note 'possible compensatory extra picks given by the league (or ....)' and 'at the end of the specified round (or ......)'. To make it more complicated, I believe these picks are subject to an offset if the Patriots sign similar free agents ?

2006 draft picks:
word 'unconditional' means ?
I believe ?? that the Patriots regular picks are set as to position (21st ?) and perhaps position of traded picks are set ? (although some of these may be dependent on coin flips not yet done ?)
Davis related pick - preface with the phrase 'probably traded away' ??
Heading: "The following lists the draft picks that the Patriots will have in the 2006"draft." Perhaps add - "Compensatory picks may be added."

Re the "draft picks" part...
A look at the picks:

Round 1 -- 21st, assigned selection
Round 2 -- 20th, assigned selection
Round 3 -- 11th, from Baltimore*
Round 3 -- 22nd, assigned selection
Round 4 -- 9th, from Detroit**
Round 4 -- 21st, assigned selection
Round 5 -- 6/7th, from Oakland***
Round 5 -- 20th, traded to Browns for WR Andre' Davis
Round 6 -- 22nd, assigned selection
Round 7 -- 21st, assigned selection

Yes.

I have no clue what you mean

I will copy and paste from my FAQ page.

Under RFA and URFA, for any phrases 'receives xxxx pick', perhaps it would be informative to note 'possible compensatory extra picks given by the league (or ....)' and 'at the end of the specified round (or ......)'.

That would be confusing and misleading.

2006 draft picks:
word 'unconditional' means ?

There were no conditions to the pick - ie, Davis had to make the Patriots roster, catch a certain number of passes.
I believe ?? that the Patriots regular picks are set as to position (21st ?) and perhaps position of traded picks are set ? (although some of these may be dependent on coin flips not yet done ?)
The exact position of all of the Patriots draft picks will not be known until the compensatory picks are announced
Davis related pick - preface with the phrase 'probably traded away' ??
Why??
Heading: "The following lists the draft picks that the Patriots will have in the 2006"draft." Perhaps add - "Compensatory picks may be added."

I guess that you missed:
"Therefore, it is very likely that the Patriots will receive at least two compensatory picks in the 2006 draft." right before the heading

Based on this :

"Perhaps it might be appropriate to have a paragraph about plain Free Agent (FA) if there is such a thing"

I don't think he has a clue what he means either

Is there something in particular that compelled you to be nasty ??

Out of curiosity, what would you call P.K. Sam whose contract has expired and certainly isn't a 'restricted' free agent or an 'unrestricted' free agent ?

Or, what would you call players who are cut from the team before the regular season or during the season ?? ?? ??

There are actually different types of unrestricted. I don't know what the specific NFL designations are but I will describe them this way.

Type 1: Players who have had their contracts expire. Teams who lose these players might be eligible for compensatory picks in the following year's draft.

Type 2: Players who have been cut. Players who are cut are not eligible in the UFA compensation plan

Type 3: Players who are waived. Players who are waived are not eligible in the UFA compensation plan.

Type 4: Street Free Agents. These are players who went underafted. However, if they sign a non-practice squad deal with a team and they have 3 years or less experience, then they become Exclusive Rights Free Agents.

Hope this helps.

A street free agent

Any player who is not on a team's 53-man roster, IR, PUP or NFI list at the the end of the regular season is considered to be a street free agent - able to sign with any team in the NFL. Street free agents are not included in the compensatory picks calculations.

Based on your questions, I made some changes to the free agency page.

Miguel -
Let me make sure I am clear on this. By end of season, you mean the week 17, right?

I meant that. But I was wrong. I should have written end of the team's season, whenever that is, regular season or postseason.
