Midseason Thoughts on Chad Ryland So Far

Stop using draft capital on kickers. Go the UDFA route.

I didn't have the slightest problem with it last year. They had a ton of picks and couldn't get trade-ups.

Once you get past the 3rd round, most will wash out or be bit players anyway. the Pats clearly thought they'd solve their tackle problems with Reiff,
Anderson, then the two late arrivals. They missed. i wish they had grabbed at least one from the college ranks, but how many OTs after the 3rd round are ready to come in and play in the NFL? My guess is, not many.

They still drafted 3OL, two of whom look like they'll be NFL players (haven't seen Andrews yet).

I get that Bill wanted Moody and the 49ers jumped in front of us and grabbed him but I still don't get why we needed Ryland in the 4th. He can't kick.

Kid has the yips. Let him play out the season for better or worse. Bring some good competition in during the offseason. He’ll either get it fixed real quick or be another bust. IDC at this point.

The standards for a kicker have risen dramatically in the last 20 years.

It is astonishing. By current standards, he's not very good. Just go back to the end of the last century and he'd likely just be considered average.
