Interesting Article:
http://www.miamiherald.com/1190/story/241141.html

The Dolphins, barring an unexpected rebound, are several years and multiple solid drafts away from being a contending team. The first two games this season have proven Miami cannot run the ball and cannot stop the run, which in football parlance means the Dolphins have zero chance to win many games.

So it simply makes sense for this team to dangle Taylor between now and Oct. 16, or, failing that, try to trade the face of their defense after this season. It is not only the smart thing, but also the right thing to do.

It is the smart thing because somewhere out there, among the list of teams that count themselves one star pass-rusher from Super Bowl contention, Taylor's value is likely high enough to make a trade not only intriguing, but inviting.

The Pats don't need him, I would hate to see him with the Colts. But I think that the premise is sound, hopefully they trade him before the Pats have to play them.

Jason Taylor could easily play OLB with Rosey Colvin and Mike Vrabel.

I wonder what they expect to get in return. The guy is 34 years old, I highly doubt he would bring anything better then a late first day pick, and the 'fins need more then that. Of course, maybe the Pats pick him up to keep him away from from the Colts, ala Sox getting Gagne?

I don't think he'd ever come to the Pats, he'd miss playing with his brother in law too much.

They got divorced.

I don't think that the Pats would send them the amount of picks that they want for Taylor, he is signed through 2009. My guess would be a NFC team would do it. Here's an interesting thought, Greg Ellis is gone for the season, and Dallas already has Cleveland's 1st round pick next year, so if I'm Miami, I'd take Dallas' 1st rd pick next year for Taylor. It is also not a bad deal for Dallas.

He's 33, but I think he could still fetch a 1st or 2nd rounder. He's one of the best defensive players in the game today, and still has a few good years left in him. I just hope the Colts don't get him.

There was a story in SI that they got back together. The story was in just this year, I think in the NFL preview issue.

Taylor and Brady are said to be pretty good friends. Remember when Brady got one vote in the "Dirtiest player in the league" poll? Everybody assumed it was Taylor who'd cast it.

But would it really make sense to invest in THAT much aging quality at OLB? I'd love for the answer to be "yes", but I don't see it.

Nobody can get him w/out a first round pick I would imagine and the Colts don't have one.

Don't let the Steelers see this.

Actually, he is split up with Zack's sister now and word on the street in SoFla is that they don't get along so well anymore.

That said, I don't see the Dolphins dumping him. He is HUGELY popular down here (translation: butts in seats while the team loses) and he does have a lot left in that 34-year-old tank. Make no mistake!

That could very well be. I hadn't heard that.

What I was saying about the tension between Taylor and Thomas was going back to last season.

From the June 19, 2007 SI:

This is as far as Taylor will go in discussing his marital discord: "Obviously, s -- - becomes public; the more fame you have, the more public it becomes, which doesn't help. I got my cage rattled. You work at it." Jason and Katina both say he has modified his lifestyle, giving up nights out with the boys (though he still hosts semiregular cigar-and-poker nights at the couple's home in Weston). "He's changing, and he wants to," says Katina. "Everybody's a work in progress, but he's made his family a priority. He's a great husband, a great father. We're in a very good place, thank God for that. Because when I think about where we were a year ago. . . . "

I like Jason and have liked the idea of seeing him on the Patriots. That being said unless NE could get him with what will likely be a late 2nd then I wouldn't bother.

Really, I'm happy with Colvin (would like to extend him), Vrabel and Thomas as LB's who can play outside. Yes, Thomas is mostly playing ILB right now, but he's been a very strong OLB over the past few years, and is a great pass rusher. So, his going back outside could always happen.

I'd like to see a strong ILB added to the mix next year. That ILB is Rey Maualuga

I think if he was a FA he would be here in a heartbeat. He and Brady are tight and he always says how much he loves the Pats orginization. That said the Fins would ask way too much from the Pats when there would be quite a few other offers IMO from other teams outside the division and conference.
