FS Brandon Meriweather was the top-rated safety in the draft. Early mocks have had him in the top 20 of the first round, and obviously New England would have been interested given their needs in the secondary.

Well, not anymore.

He is prominent in the brawl, running into the scrum of players and stomping on players who were down with his cleats. An ugly scene.

That's the type of character thing that will certainly drop his overall rating, and eliminate him from consideration from teams like New England.

I've done a few Miami games and if I've learned one thing it's that Mariweather can't cover. That doesn't kock him off the BB draft board, but it makes it harder to envision using a 1st on him.

LMAI about Cincy, Urgent. That's too bad about Merrieweather although Landry and Griffin are the two Safeties I've been eyeing for the Patriots a little more.

I'm sure he is an outstanding citizen.....

He was with another U player that got shot recently and since he had a gun (hey required equipment for college "students" right...he "returned" fire with his gun) This guy is a thug and I hope he never sees a NFL payday. Suspended for ONE GAME!!! For stomping on players when they are down? The entire athletic department that is in charge of this should be terminated...FIU got rid of multiple players...MIami??? suspended thier players for ONE GAME! Ok they did extend one suspension to indefinitely, but the NCAA should come in and take care of this since Miami obviously can't police themselves.

Probably more embarrassing to Miami, as a university, for alums, fellow students, was the team pride shown after their behavior in the brawl. After interrupting the football game to swing helmets at opposing players and to stomp on fallen players, they got together and did the team bounce celebration, all together holding their helmets up, showing pride in their performance.

There have been plenty of brawls in sports, but seldom do players pat themselves on the back in front of fans.

If the team decides to simply suspend the most flagrant participants a single game against a winless opponent, the message is pretty clear.
