Meaningless power rankings

Dallas should be #32.

Pats at #1? Hard to argue at this point, though I know there are plenty here who feel the Pats aren't even a top ten team.

finally getting some respect.

putting the vikes at 32 makes this evaluation very suspect
and not very credible. IMO.
I could see maybe 20 to 25 range but 32?

Certainly 32 should go to Bills or Panthers.

It is clear he values the "teamness" higher than actual W-L or talent of players. Bills are not in disarray, are playing decent football and are improving and have a QB that is on the rise. The Vikings and Cowboys are teams that have become absolute circuses.

The Bills played the Ravens and Chiefs pretty tough, not to mention the Pats. If they played in the NFC West, they might be a three win team.

How do you measure "teamness"? How can you not consider wins as
a reflection of that quality?

Until Bills prove it in the win column it is just speculation.

Vikes even with old man Farve and a very good run game and a decent
defense should beat teams like 49's, Denver, Jags, seahawks, panthers,
Rams and even a few upsets. Number 32 is crazy.
Beacuse of their record they should go in the twenties but ceartainly not 32.
They have a lot of talent and can change things around.

Raiders at 11 makes me faintly ill.

I know Bills are playing hard, but they still have lost every game! So I cannot see how Vikings are lower than that!

I think the Vikes are 32 as a reaction to this Moss thing. As in the 32nd most inept organization.

Funny how 4 weeks ago, Bill was accused of "giving up the season" and basically raked over the coals as being crazy and now it's a master con.

I mean, I knew he was right but I didn't expect the dividends to be paid so quickly.

Power rankings are not based purely on W-L, if they were they would have no point, just just the NFL.com standings page. They are a future prediction, I predict the Bills will win more games during the second half of the season than the Vikings will. Hence I rate them higher.

If you were buying stock on each team, which do you think will do better from here out or in a head to head match. The Vikings are in total disarray. I have no doubt right now the Bills would beat them. The Viking QB has brain damage, Harvin is hurt, the coach is a fool and the team will quit while the Bills have played very tough.

No way the Vikings are ranked so low. Who made this poll? Must have been Randy.

The Bills remind me a bit of the '69 Patriots.

They lost their first 7 games, but after a few early season blowouts, they started to get better and better with each game.

Finally, on week 8, they shut out the Houston Oilers, 24-0, and this turnaround game prompted several local scribes to wonder aloud if, after going 0-7 in the first half of the season, they might not go 7-0 in the last half.

Really, this is, in essence, what several columnists in the Herald and the Globe published.

The Pats ended up going 4-9 that season, but were competitive in all their remaining games.

That was good enough to be able to draft Phil Olsen, brother of Merlin, in the following off-season's draft.

'Course, like so much else about the Patriots in those years, that one didn't quite work out.

But perhaps the example is illustrative in this instance. Don't count Buffalo out of any game the rest of the way. They can be, and doubtless will be, dangerous to any number of teams left on their schedule, including the Patriots.

Power Rankings should be about two things: wins and losses, and the objective strength of a team. So, I would put the Vikes at around 16, and believe they are in the top 6 NFC teams. I'd place the Cowboys at around 23-24.

ESPN is cooking up a way to discredit the Pats, you know how when PIT was undefeated they got top spot and then Jets when they won 5 straight.

Either they bring up a fluke loss to the Jets or they rant about '?'s' on defense. I expect them to rank us behind ESPN Jets.

Is there a ring ceremony or anything for being ranked first half way through the season?

You don't need to go that far back to find the last time the Vikings embarrassed themselves. Just a few years back they had the "Love Boat"

I think those were the "good ol' days" relatively speaking.
