Was not the INT imo, the play where he was singled up vs Harvin and ran stride for stride down the sideline with a 4.2 4.3 WR and was on him like glue. That play to me was actually more impressive than the INT, he was in great position to pick that pass off just the impact of the ground seemed to knock it lose.

The impressiveness of the INT was diminished by GB doing that to the Jets twice earlier in the day.

I have to agree, I was surprised to see McCourty keep up with Harvin so easily. He wasn't sprinting all-out, and even had time and poise to turn around and make a natural play on the ball, not a desperate leap to break it up.

He also knocked a ball away effortlessly at the goal line before Favre got injured. Not a huge play in the outcome of the game considering the Vikings would score a few plays later, but as we learned with the 4th down stuff at the end of the first half, anytime you can break up a play at the goal line, it's a big deal.

It's impressive how he rarely has to dive to break up a ball because he's always generally in the right place. They say the great ones make it look easy, and while McCourty has a long way to go, he has that potential.

Good thread. That play really caught my eye. McCourty is so smooth. He must love being coached by BB, and vice versa.

that play was all right....

wish we had gotten kyle wilson instead

I just can't get over the fact that on draft day almost all of us were pissed with this pick... I remember everyone throwing around that "we got a special teams demon". More like we got a ridiculously talented CB. Who would have thought?

I will admit I hated the pick, and I hated it up until I saw McCourty actually play in pre-season games. He is a stud, and is on pace to be an outstanding pro bowl corner

On that play it looked like Harvin had a step on him but DMc as we have all noticed has tremendous make-up speed. I've noticed a few times this season it has looked like DMc is out of position or about to get beat but somehow closes ground on the receiver and makes the play. I was not upset with the pick.. maybe not happy either but I admit I didn't know much about him so I was confused a bit. But the more I read about him and saw some footage of him.. I was more impressed and thought maybe this could be a good player. He might playing about as well as anyone at the CB position right now!

This was the most impressive to me as he was moving laterally, stride for stride, with the WR running straight up, and reaching around in front of him to swat the ball away. A future "Dancing with Stars" winner no doubt.

After he was drafted, some fans who knew him and some draft experts said that he has the stuff of a shutdown corner. I thought they were being too optimistic... I no longer think that. This guy can really be our Revis.

I was pissed about the pick of McCourty, but now I'm loving it.

I'm so glad we didn't get Jerry Hughes like the half the board wanted. Anyone see him come in for like one play and get a 15 yard facemask penalty? You know you suck when even Gruden bashes you.

This is the perfect time to take a look back at this post, along with its epic reply

He has never made one impact play at Rutgers, in fact he has missed a number of tackles and INT that could have changed the game. Devin will play special trams for 3 years and be out of football in 5 years. This is simply the worst pick of the first round, the worst pick of the BB era, and is the exact reason this teams reign in the NFL is over!!! We will be fighting The Bills for the third spot in the East, and you know what I can't say we are a lock for number 3.

I was pissed when we drafted him, but he keeps improving all the time. Loved the coverage on the deep fade against Harvin because....HE LOOKED FOR THE BALL

Wilhite, Butler takes notes, you learned that it high school.

Mountain Commando,

Thanks for sharing that thread and image. That is classic!!! I LOL over that one.

I like that we saw that kind of speed, but I still do think the INT was his most impressive play. He had the presence of mind enough to stick his hand in and just snatch the ball. I've seen the receiver make a catch like that time and again in the NFL, and the fact that a rookie was smart enough to make a play for the ball rather than trying to fall on Harvin or touch him down was really impressive to me.
