Loved this quote from Mayo's interview:
New England Patriots LB Jerod Mayo: Glad To Be Back Now - ESPN
It may have been in Patriot Reign but I think it was 2002 when the team was struggling and some DB (Ty Law??) talked about getting their swagger back from 2001 and Belichick said something to the effect:
"what swagger, we didn't have any swagger, we just worked". I'm paraphrasing but I think the overall message is delivered. Its similar to how leadership is viewed or defined. Belichick was asked once what a leader is and he said a leader is someone who does their job and puts team goals above personal ones.
Draft these types of guys, don't care what position they play.
"Replacing Spikes' swagger: "Did he bring a lot of swagger? What is swagger? I always get kind of confused when a 30-plus-year-old man brings up the word swagger. It's just weird. I don't even use that word and I'm 28 years old. What is swagger? Is it a visor? A bandanna? ... Let's eliminate that word [spoken with humorous tone]."
