Mayo Made The Right Call, The Only Call - Brissett over Maye

Then please explain to me why Maye didn't start? Was it because Mayo only wanted to win by six instead of 18?
The report was it was due to the line being in flux and didn't want Maye to get hurt.

I also believe Mayo was in favor of starting Maye based on Maye was playing better than Jacoby line and the fact he has said he'll start the players giving them the best chance to win etc.

I know AVP and Wolfe believe a rookie QB should sit at least part of the first year so 2 people against one thus Maye sits as it is a collaborate process, as they have said many times.

I also think they face ZERO criticism sitting Maye. If Maye starts and gets hurt or does not go well, they face huge criticism of rushing him without the proper support on the offense. Starting Jacoby, no matter how it goes, criticism will be light.
It is their first year, they don't want to have Kraft think they screwed up and got the #3 overall pick and future franchise QB hurt or shell-shocked (not a real thing but people believe it). Whatever they do in year 1, don't screw Maye up in year 1 and they keep their jobs at least for 3 years.

What's being lost in the excitement of the win is that we were 1-2 offensive snafus away from losing that game, which Maye easily commits if he doesn't know how to get guys lined up or takes risky throws. Our margin for error is tiny. Some of that margin is Brissett's limitations going vertical, some of it is the WRs, and most is the OL.

This is fair. But I still think that having Maye sit the beginning of the season was the right call. A simple difference of opinion here. I appreciate your well thought out response.

not true. They knew they were going to start Brissett from day 1. Before the OLine issues showed its ugly face

Its was because of his familarity with AVP. Use a QB experienced in that system while the team and staff gets on the same page

Oh, you've talked to them about this? Interesting. First time I've heard about Wolf having any input into who starts, who sits. In fact Mayo said the exact opposite, and thanked Kraft for letting him make those decisions.

your posts alone gainsay that.

If they have to pass more they will.
If they have to pass more with Brissett then that would basically mean a loss. The only way to win with Brissett is run the ball, control the clock, don’t make mistakes.

If you need Brissett to throw left and right then you are in huge trouble more often than not

Bootlegs baby

AVP's system is overrated who can't run that??
Deshaun Watson can't run it.

I think every rookie should sit the 1st month at least. Pre season gives the rook game reps but not against a complex exotic defense, in most cases. It feels like most D coordinators because they don't want to show any of their real stuff. For the folks that say but Peyton says its better to start. That feels like the same logic that Bix, JD and Caleb all looked confused during their respective games, do its good that we didn't start Maye.

Its silly to say this person did this so it would be that way for everyone. I feel like Mayo, AVP and the rest have made the right choice and I also like the way they are handling his progression, at least based on things that have been reported.

Mayo is a dead man walking.

He has been betrayed by whomever is behind the pathetic FA period and a draft that failed to land a LT. We tend to blame Wolfe, but I have to wonder if one of the Krafts is making the penny-wise /pound foolish moves. We saw what happened to the Patriots when the elder Kraft and Bobby Grier were calling the shots before Parcells put his foot down; is it happening again? Mayo does not have the gravitas of Parcells or BB to overrule ownership and now we have a mess.

It is too bad, because with this defense plus a smidgen of offense, the Patriots could win some games. Now opposing defenses are going to licking their chops when that Patriots OL lines up; it is going to be a slaughter.
Here I predicted this in late August. Mayo is going to be the fall guy for front office/ownership failures. The blame game is already targeting him and the season is still young.
