Mayo 8:30 press conference (Edit: Names Brissett the starter)

Brissett will at least be better than the Mac/Zappe Experience last year. He will still miss some throws and make some mistakes but he has baseline level competence and has a better understanding of what he is doing, and he doesn't have severe confidence issues or overcompensating trying to prove himself. He's a game manager. They may not be super successful but they won't **** the bed like last year.

Sitting Drake does let him see "real" defensive game planning on film and gives the OL time to figure out their best grouping and gel and get comfortable. Maybe after a few weeks he's more comfortable and the OL is settled and he can come in. I guess we will see.
Ross...Drake is mobile it was talked about all through the Draft process. This sieve of a OL needs that kind of QB: if Maye was a Statue then I would worry.

I hear you PF2.. but you have to remember our secondary isn't going to just sit back and let borrow pick them part.. Burrow is dam good.. put gonzo on Higgins.. double chase with J. Jones and Hawkins... make him become check down joe..
Judon and Barmore aren't playing for us Game 1.

Just trying to protect those top pick odds. Maye is a win or two better than Briskett

Those guys are all better than J Brissett.
Flacco ya, the other two are back ups. So's Brissett, but that's splitting hairs. The point is that whatever vet signed on to be a mentor was starting week one.

I know brother.. don't forget mixon ain't in the backfield anymore. It's he made life so much easier for burrow.. lock of Higgins with gonzo.. double chase.. it's starts with the secondary brother.

I would have started Maye too but it is what it is.

Sad the roster is so trash that they're forced to play a clearly inferior QB. What a nightmare for Mayo as a first year HC.

Your coddling of Maye will only delay his development and slow down the process of finding out if he's the one.
Did Brady getting "coddled" delay his development? Did Mahomes? Did Rodgers? Did Brees? Did Montana?

I'm more interested in you telling us which rookie QBs picked in the top 3 who's career ended because they got hurt in their rookie season.

Because you're talking about a scenario that doesn't apply to the Patriots in the random HOF QBs your name dropping.

This decision is so that:
- the coaches can see if the offense can demonstrate some competence, especially the OL & running game
- the team gets out of the gate with as few turnovers as possible
- Maye can see how Jacoby calls and adjusts protections
- AVP can start out with a vet QB who knows the offense and can think with him.

If the operation as a whole looks half decent after a month, then look for Maye to come in.

The only load of **** is hiding behind this fantasy that there's an injury out there waiting for Maye that is somehow career ending. Worse, is presuming this injury risk disappears once the line is better.
His injury doesn’t have to be career ending, it could simply be season ending. Eventually accumulative injuries could make him walk away entirely too young like Andrew Luck.
Mac Jones didn't have this problem.
Mac had one of the better offensive lines in the AFC as a rookie. He just sucked so when his line got injuried and worse he got benched because he sucked worse.
Jacoby did not get blindsided. Even if he literally didn't see the player coming. His blind side is the side he can't see my friend.
If he’s facing the left and gets hit from a completely unblocked rusher he assumed was blocked on the right that’s blindsided. You’re also dismissing it was the result of incompetence by his line, not some element missing from his game. Again… silly.

The plan when the 21 year old was drafted was sit him. It’s what the previous coach BB said on Mcafee’s draft show. Sit him and wait until he’s ready. The whims of impatient fans with the attention span of a gnat should be ignored.

This offensive line sucks, fix it, get through the first month which is a gauntlet of tough defenses… reevaluate in month two.

He wasn't facing the left. His peripheral on the fake hand off was staring down his would be tackler. He should of seen him.

If Maye is injury prone, better to find out how then later.

Hell be playing before week 6.

What's the saying about correlation and causation?

Maybe one of those guys actually wins something during that time they sat. We don't know that playing then too soon would have hurt them physically or mentally anymore than they could have been successful sooner.

Can we get off this seesaw of extremes?

1) No ones getting ruined because they sit and develop and no one’s getting ruined because they start week 1. Quit cherry picking individuals that conveniently support one end of the spectrum or the other. There’s no one right answer in how to develop a young player, otherwise we’d all just do it that way.

2) Maye can have performed better on the field and still not “win” a competition. Both things can be true. What you do on the field is only a piece of the puzzle. Maye looked just as bad as Brissett in joint practices and only after getting the “answers to the test” did he look better against the Eagles. I imagine Jacoby has a lot more answers to a lot more tests at this point and giving Drake time to learn that isn’t a bad thing. Plus this offense and this staff are also learning and developing- the whole operation can improve by having a known commodity at QB.

I think it was widely accepted when we drafted Drake we should be patient with his development, but now that it’s time to be patient there’s a group losing their collective minds because we’ve seen 3 weeks of preseason games against backups.

Week five looks like a possibility if they fix the offensive line and execution improves.
