Brady never played behind a line this bad. He got hurt and missed meaningful games once in his career. Andrew Luck played behind an awful line and it destroyed his career. Yes putting a young QB who is still developing behind the worst line in the league is a recipe for disaster. Both in hurting his development and physically causing damage.

When the line isn't a paper towel and the center can snap the ball correctly, then develop the young guy behind it. Otherwise you'll get another Luck/RGIII situation
The OL was obviously better than we knew. But it was a mess in 99 and 00. In 01 we were 0-2 and Drew almost died. Not sure what this actually adds to the debate but I enjoy talking about the 01 team.

Well really it's the lines job. And they don't seem up to it. I would agree with you if it was some average line and you could say "okay if Maye just identifies coverage and the rush and isn't totally oblivious he can avoid getting hurt and it's more on him". But this isn't that situation.

And frankly, imo, getting live reps won't matter if the QB can't hone his craft during it because he has to worry more about a low snap or someone coming in unblocked every other play.

This is just dishonest. Because if you're being serious about Maye plays when the line can protect him then come back in 2026. If you're lucky.

That's definitely what everyone wants to believe.

But really it's about Mayo and Wolf saving their jobs for a extra year by the promise of a shiny new toy to save us next year.

But that toy is there regardless of Mayo and Wolf :/ if that's their plan, they didn't think it through.

Rob the Development of our Young Skilled players is very important Pop Douglas - Thornton - Polk - Baker and Boutte need a QB like Maye to make them happen...JB won't move the needle this is Mac Jones all over again a QB's who hinders the development and growth of other players. JB doesn't move the needle he is what he is a journeyman backup.

The development of Maye is the #1 priority. You do what is best for him. Plain and simple. He is the franchise until he proves he isn't. Everything on offense needs to be in developing him. That is more important than the receivers.

And Brissett was pretty good last year in the same system.

If they burn that wick this year and suck as badly as they're about to, their job security is gone.

At least they can tell the Krafts thst next year we have the QB and the cap to fix this.

You know, what Wolf and Mayo said about THIS year.

I really don't think most fans that feel this way realize how ugly this is going to get if/when they start losing games due to poor offensive line play, or poor WR play, or poor QB play. The team has alienated itself from the fan base, and this could get VERY ugly very quickly.

The fan base will come back if they are competitive in a year or two. You will start to lose them if they ruin Maye like Belichick ruined Mac. The fan base does not want to go through another rebuild three years from now.

Fans will be more forgiving knowing that they will eventually see Maye come in and hopefully resurrect the franchise than them rushing Maye too quickly, he develops bad habits or sees ghosts and the Pats are drafting another QB in the first round in 2027.

The line can always develop and be more cohesive to the point where they aren't a complete push over during the course of a season. Chemistry is huge with a line and we've seen lines develop and get better over the year.

That's right. Jacoby got hurt. Not Maye.

Maybe it has something to do with Jacoby sucking and getting sacked on a play in which he was looking right at the player who sacked him

A better player (hopefully Maye) sees the guy and does the right thing.
That's a load of sht. Did Brady make a mistake when his knee got folded and he missed the entire 2008 season?

Brissett got blindsided because his right tackle screwed the pooch... which is what will happen to Maye if they don't protect him from the mess they've made on the O-Line. The kid is 21... he's not Yoda with years of knowledge on how to fix "bad."

But we get it... you guys are impatient.. throw the kid to the wolves. Just silly...

It's interesting that the line can go out there and develop, despite the injury risk but not Maye.

This. We don't know if any of those WR's are even going to be here in 3 years. But even if they are good, it doesn't mean a thing if we are still looking for the QB

The only load of **** is hiding behind this fantasy that there's a injury out there waiting for Maye that is somehow career ending. Worse, is presuming this injury risk disappears once the line is better.

Mac Jones didn't have this problem.

Edit.

Jacoby did not get blindsided. Even if he literally didn't see the player coming. His blind side is the side he can't see my friend.

Brissett will at least be better than the Mac/Zappe Experience last year. He will still miss some throws and make some mistakes but he has baseline level competence and has a better understanding of what he is doing, and he doesn't have severe confidence issues or overcompensating trying to prove himself. He's a game manager. They may not be super successful but they won't **** the bed like last year.

Sitting Drake does let him see "real" defensive gameplanning on film and gives the OL time to figure out their best grouping and gel and get comfortable. Maybe after a few weeks he's more comfortable and the OL is settled and he can come in. I guess we will see.

What makes you say that? He was just as bad this pre season as Mac was last year.

The lineman don't touch the football. The lineman aren't responsible for reading a defense and making a play. The lineman don't have defensive tackles who are foaming at the mouth trying to get to them and murder them. A lineman focuses on one thing during a pass play, the rush.

That's it. Stop right there. Mac/Zappe was Tommy Hogdon / Hugh Millentated level bad.

This has always been the plan. He could have gone out there and had phenomenal camp and looked like the second coming. It wouldn't have mattered. He was always going to sit. Brissett was the guy the moment he signed, but he could have been Joe Flacco, Tyrod Taylor or Gardner Minichew. Whoever the vet was they brought in was going to start ahead of The Kid.

Great point we all saw that last Preseason 23 and it came to fruition why would JB's outcome be any different?? People seem to be reaching here "a drowning man will clutch at a straw."

Your coddling of Maye will only delay his development and slow down the process of finding out if he's the one.

Those guys are all better than J Brissett.

Joe Burrow is my Second best QB in the league Real after Mahomes he'll tear us a new one. Just get up two scores on NE and Game over.
I hear you PF2.. but you have to remember our secondary isn't going to just sit back and let borrow pick them part.. Burrow is dam good.. put gonzo on Higgins.. double chase with J. Jones and Hawkins... make him become check down joe..
