I have great compassion for his parents, who must be devastated, and for Steeler fans. But reading PFTalk you begin to realize what a jackas*s Ben really is.
"At the site of the World Trade Center, Roethlisberger was explaining to offensive tackle Robert Gallery that, after learning of the September 11 attacks, 'We didn't even lift that day.'" http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm Wow.

He is a dope, and will always be one, he will be riding a motorcycle in six weeks, and still no helmet... He deserves what he gets...

Never been a big fan of him, he did lead the Steelers to the SB win, but never got the impression he was all that bright... talk about system QB's, he has to be the ultimate... cannot think of anything more stupid to be on a high powered bike sans helmet... on the other hand "youth is wasted on the young" and we all believed we were destined to live forever one day.

He showed no respect to his family, coaches , team , and organization, by riding around like a dope... Stories were around that he was not focused on football, this offseason. I know this is totally irelevant, but still a lack of concern for others the way he acts... Sad to say he still will make a quicker recovery, from all reports, than Tedy did with a stroke, and he will get more attention than Tedy gets...

Um its 'sad' to say he is gonna recover? He deserved to get hurt? The hell are you so bitter for. Sure he was stupid to not wear a helmet but no one deserves having a broken jaw and other injuries. ANd who gives a damn if he gets more air time than tedy about recovering. Let all the media gush over the SB champion QB if they want.

One More Thing

It was also reported in the Pittsburg newspapers that Big Ben got a speeding ticket last Friday. He was not riding his bike but was driving his car.

Please, like hundreds of professional athletes haven't gotton speeding tickets. I'm sure lots of posters here, and elsewhere, have gotton them too.

Steelgal

We're not talking about hundreds of atheletes but Big Ben. The speeding ticket also indicates that just like riding without a helmet and riding a high performance "pocket rocket" that Big Ben has made a series of questionable decisions. Still, I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Calling him Ben Hamburger is insensitive and callous. He could have been seriously injured, and the guy is still in the hospital after hours of reconstructive facial surgery. It's comments like that that make us look like idiots to the other fans.

Besides, given his long real name, Ben Toothlessberger fits better.

I hate these self-righteous threads. Just be glad it wasn't you or someone you care about and shut up.

Yuk it up fellas.
I think the vast majority of Pats fans (and all fans) are concerned for Ben the person and his health first and foremost. There are always fans, even Steeler fans you must admit, that take shots at injured players.

Of course, Ben would have been wiser to listen to Bradshaw and save his motorcycling until after his playing days, but he didn't. SOmetimes the emotional and psychological makeup of a person that allows him to some things (like stand in the pocket against a pass rush) works both for and against him. I dislike TO immensely, but felt for him when he said something to the effect that the attitude that makes him great is the same attitude that causes him problems.

In Ben's case, the down side is that the Steelers may lose him for some games. Luckily it was his face that took the brunt of the hit. (I don't mean that in a cruel way, only that his face can be reconstructed easier than his knees and throwing shoulder.)

We all hope he gets well and gets back out on the field.

It is always a terrible thing for anyone to get hurt, but somehow when the injury hits someone in a way that can take away the livelihood of a talented person, it seems a bit more tragic.

Best of luck to him. Hope he gets back on the field very soon.

But expect the ESPN talking heads to yap about this until he gets back on the field, and then to analyze every thing he does and says. It's going to be a long year for you guys.....

C'mon, CT. Now that we know Ben is going to live and has no serious internal injuries, even Steeler fans are chiming in with some humor. All you have to do is check out the Steeler fan web sites and their jibes are alot tougher than mine.

As we did in 2002, Steeler fans expect to win a second straight SB just by showing up.

But now, if the Steelers faulter in lieu of Ben recovering and returning to play, we'll never hear the end of " we wudda if Ben wasn't hurt".
