$3.5M pretty much guaranteed just by showing up, plus $3M in incentives.
Let's hope that he doesn't have to collect Any of those incentives, and he remains merely an expensive insurance policy.

It is always about depth and the "next man up" philosophy for the Patriots..

Miguel,

Please clear up something for us. How much do we reasonably have available to secure new players, given our current cap situation? It seems that we are in very good shape, especially if we are extending Brady, saving say $4M and we are willing to restructure Cannon and/or Hightower ($3M each).

I plan to write a piece on the Boston Sports Journal once the Patriots stop signing veteran players, whenever that may be.

Hopefully.

If you want McCoy then you don’t want to see him released. The Patriots rarely if ever win bidding wars for older free agents like him. The idea that players at this point in their career value a ring over more money almost always proves to be wrong. It’s their last payday and their goal is to maximize it. If he’s released Cleveland will outbid NE.

I agree in regards to bidding wars, but that’s assuming he wants to play in CLE. What we do know, is NE isn’t about to absorb his current contract. Either way, I personally believe the best way to acquire his services would be if he was released.

I disagree. The Pats can’t and wouldn’t pay the salary, so unless he agrees to take a big pay cut as part of a trade, he won’t be playing for the Pats next season.

If he gets released, it a least gives the Pats a shot. Get him on the phone with the GOAT coach, whose team is coming off another SB win, and sell him on how the Pats would use his talents, with the goal of capping his great career with a SB ring. IMO, he would be a great vet addition to the DL, as a 50-70% snaps guy. Love his energy and motor. Hard worker who would fit right it in Foxboro.
