Maroney's banged-up shoulder... [merged]

Re: Maroney's banged-up shoulder...

Also, don't forget this article is by Tomase, the king of speculation.

I wouldn't read to much into this. They basically say what ever was wrong, it was serious enough for surgery, but they don't say what exactly was wrong, and this is just a "league source". League sources initially had the info wrong on Harrison, Bruschi's wrist, and a number of other things. Hopefully Maroney will be fine.
I don't doubt the "fairly significant" from the league source. But when he writes "though the long-term impact is unclear" that is worded such that it's Tomase, not the source, saying it. So unless Tomase didn't get his wording right, that isn't just speculative, it's useless conjecture.

Any time an injury requires surgery it could be considered fairly significant. I guess we're just going to have to wait and see. I also wouldn't read anything into Lynch getting picked at 24, if he falls. I hinted to this the other day. Lynch and Maroney would probably be one of the leagues best backfields.

Re: Maroney's banged-up shoulder...

We only released him a few weeks ago, the front office knew about the Maroney thing by then (I'm sure they did, there's nothing in the article to suggest this just happened). If looking into bringing Dillon back was necessary they wouldn't have released him in the first place.

Good point. duh. Remind me never to post before my 2nd cup of coffee.

There is the chance that we would bring him back but at a lower cost that he was unwilling to accept without looking around first. But I'm not overly concerned about the Maroney thing, when considering the shoulder for a RB (not a QB or pitcher), the number of things that can constitute "significant damage" but not threaten the next season is very large.

Re: Maroney's banged-up shoulder...

Craptastic
I hope he recovers back to pre-injury.

Re: Maroney's banged-up shoulder...

I'm not too worried about it. There's always a risk with any surgery, and the team feels pretty confident that LM is the guy. Once a player gets hurt, the options are on the table pretty much from the get-go, so this isn't something that would've blindsided the team, rather something they have known.

Re: Maroney's banged-up shoulder...

I am sure if the FO thought it was serious, with our cap space available, we would of looked @ a few more FA's other than Morris.

Re: Maroney's banged-up shoulder...

payers have off season surgery all the time, ive never heard of a shoulder injurybeing career threatening, they probably explored, fond some damage ,corrected it end of story. if was that serious i doubt the pats release dillon, they would definetly keep dillon as insurance, also if it was real serious they sign a starting back instead of morris who is a back up, tomase is a old baseball writer, shoulder injuries are more serious in baseball than football, can anybody remember a football player having a career ending shoulder injury? lets look on the bright side hell hopefully have no more pain making him a better runner

Re: Maroney's banged-up shoulder...

Or if Dillon re-signs during TC or right before the season.

If Brian Leonard was selected I wouldn't read too much into it. He's not the quintessential every down back you're looking for. Now if Marshawn Lynch were to fall and we pick him up at #24.... Panic!
Marshawn Lynch! I'd be thrilled to get him. However, a defensive player pick would be sacrificed of course.

Re: Maroney's banged-up shoulder...

If I had a choice of backs it would probably be Hunt from Penn State or Kolby Smith from Louisville.

Re: Maroney's banged-up shoulder...

I would be much more worried if it were a knee instead of a shoulder. Like someone before me said, I've never heard of a shoulder injury threatening a running back's career.

Do you think that maybe we're shooting the messenger here? What is he speculating about? All I see are cautious, deliberate attempts to not speculate: "The exact nature of his injury is unclear"; "the long-term impact is unclear." I'm more inclined to give him props for breaking the story to begin with....

You guys always come out with this stuff, and Tomase always ends up being right. Why would he just MAKE THIS STUFF UP? Sometimes there's bad news. You don't always have to shoot the messenger.

Nope.......Again, this is Tomase.

Excellent point!

Re: Maroney's banged-up shoulder...

Tomase broke the Bruschi injury last year, people got mad about it. How does HE know?! Tomase has gotten a ton of scoops over his brief tenure as Pats beat writer. He and Reiss work their asses off and deserves a little credit.

who's shooting the messanger? He's been somewhat speculative in the past, and some of the sources he's quoted in the past have been somewhat off when it comes to the seriousness of injuries. There is no shooting the messenger, just cautioning. You can't completely go by what some source told him, and you really just have to wait and see.

His source last year got the extend of Rodney's knee injury wrong if you don't remember, and if I remember correctly his source thought Bruschi was going to be out longer than he was.

you can say those comments about any surgery performed, im no wooried at all , basically what he nis saying is that they went in to exlore to check out what was causing the pain, they found it fixed end of story, i wouldnt read into anymore than thta tomase is trying to expand the story so it gets headlines, the pats let dillon walk that tells me hes fine

Re: Maroney's banged-up shoulder...

I saw something on the Globe messageboard where someone said they first heard this around the same time Chad Jackson's surgery was revealed. IIRC that was before the Dillon was released.
