he was invisible vs denver. he was such a non factor i honestly didn't know he even played that day. dude had ONE tackle. in the whole game, one solo tackle, no assists.

Jones was one of many Patriot players who played through injury down the stretch and in the playoffs, it sucks that fans don't get that and trash players for playing through injury and putting the team ahead of their careers. Maybe they would have rather have a guy like Talib who pulled himself from two AFCCG's because of bruises?

It wasn't a strip sack, it was a fumble he caused on a RB I believe after a 5-6 yard gain. Nice play but no strip sack.

You're right, my mistake.

Jones had a forced fumble in pursuit on a 2nd and 8 in the 3rd qtr and a sack in the 4th qtr.

He "only" played in 42% of the defensive snaps because of a knee injury in the 4th qtr.. He did fine.

Jared allen played in the superbowl with a leg?,

I want to say another panthers player was playing with an arm that he JUST had surgery on and was stiched up and swollen and looked like a football.

All teams are playing with injuries. so saying he's hurt doesn't float with me. Chandler Jones is an okay player. But thats it. hes not worth the money some team is going to pay him, because hes not a franchise elite DE.

Synthetic weed for breakfast?
At least one strike now with the NFL's substance abuse policy.
Some family history with addiction.
These red flags will impact his trade value/ guaranteed money in future contracts.
How excited will Kraft be to fork over huge guaranteed money to this guy? Another weed guy….AHern…..didn't work out so well and that memory/cap deficit was painful.
Maybe an opportunity to "buy low" and extend this guy when he is vulnerable….but I doubt his agent sees the situation as a distress sale.
Tough call………my gut……he rides his contract out in NE and hits FA.
Half the team probably smokes weed every day. What are your thoughts on Kevin Faulk?

Weed has about as much to do with what Ahern did as the fact that he drives a car or breathes oxygen. Get this artifact of the stupid war on drugs tfo

not sure why so many want to trade jones who had more sacks then von miller in the reg season to sign Williams who is 31 coming off of a 5 sack season and is not a team player i dont get it

Grass is always greener.

Just releasing Cannon and restructuring Amendola would open up enough money for Williams. A Jones-Hicks-Brown-Williams (Sheard/Easley rotating) pass rushing front would be almost as good as Denver's.

While you make a good point, there are several issues that I'd be concerned with in this scenario:

1) Dedicating 25-30 million in cap room to your DEs is probably not something that Belichick would do.

2) "Rotating" players such as a first round pick (Easley) in his 3rd year who you're trying to make a determination on in terms of picking up the 5th year option on may be a poor decision. I think it's time to see if Easley sinks or swims, particularly since they need to make the determination on the 5th year option more than a full year prior. I could be wrong, but they may need to make it by next spring after this upcoming season.

3) Paying another rotational guy (Sheard) a 7m dollar cap hit this year is another questionable decision, at least in my opinion. This rings true even more if you believe that Sheard played better than both Jones and Ninkovich. If anything, they should likely extend him, rather than bring in an outsider for bigger money.

4) Your scenario shows a guy like Hicks as a starter, when in fact he only played 27 percent of the defensive reps last season. The truth of the matter is that Alan Branch started in 17/18 games, yet for some reason he's not even listed in your proposal.

5) Belichick just spent TWO top 100 selections on the position of DE/DL in last year's draft. I'm guessing that he wants to see how they do. Adding in yet another outside piece (and forgetting to add Branch's starter reps) messes up your scenario tremendously in this regard, since it would be virtually impossible for either Grissom or Flowers to see any time.

6) I think Mario Williams is going to command more money than some people here think. After all, a guy who was injured and had a couple of down years (Sheard) still brought in a 2/11 deal at 5.5m a year AAV. Williams will certainly top that, and may even be somewhere in the range of 7-8m dollars a year, PLUS.

They should've made him pay for a ticket that day, and that's trying to be nice about it.

That "sack" Jones got against KC was the result of Alex Smith tripping over his linemen. That was hardly a great play by Jones.

The thing with Jones is this, he's a very good player that's going to command top money because that's what that position demands. When you account that, plus we have to make decisions on Collins, Hightower and Butler. We can't keep everyone. I feel it's a no brainier Jones is the odd man out.

Not to mention, his production in the playoffs. Only 2 career sacks in 9 games? Collins, an off the line LB matched that in one half vs Denver.

You are right that Rex's system isn't a release the hounds pass rush. However, Wilkerson, Richard and Coples all got to the passer fairly consistently when Rex was coach of the NYJ so I think that if he has the guys, he'll let them go after the QB.

I really don't know what the hell happened to BUF's pass rush in 2015. My guesses are that they really didn't like/embrace Rex's system (see Mario) and Kyle Williams' knee issues and lack of availability had a bigger impact on the pass rush than people think.

Your suggestion is not unreasonable.

I'll say this. I'm somewhat in favor of trading Jones and signing Williams, but let's be real, BB defense is much more similar to Rex's than it is Wade Phillips or Pete Carroll's.

Ninko sadly imo is not a starter anymore. Great to have on the team as a situational rusher but last year more often then not he struggled to set the edge in the running game and didn't make much noise in terms of getting after the QB.

Couldn't disagree any more he has been their most consistent DL and always shows up in big games. Their DL is the best unit on the team And I really don't get the desire by some here to start dismantling it.

I never said dismantle it, just think he can be more productive in a lesser role, keep him more fresh.

The sack was on a scramble attempt as Smith was flushed out of the pocket.

Are we nit-picking on sacks now?
