OK, thanks for clarifying.

I guess the patriots offensive is lots, lots, lots more complicated than any other in the league.
I believe that most other teams expect a QB drafted in the first two rounds to be able to be a backup in their rookie season.

Some teams expect such a quarterback to be able to start immediately or midway through the season. IMHO, that is indeed pushing the envelope.

I don't think the Pats offense is really a lot more complicated than other offenses.

The thing is that there are so many things hitting a rookie QB at the same time: learning a pro system, dealing with the speed of professional football, trusting your OL against absolute elite pass rushers, hitting very tiny windows... hell, some of the college QBs have never run a huddle.

Getting exposed to all of that at once is almost like the sensory overload of the first few weeks after starting to drive until you gradually start to filter out unnecessary things and it all slows down.

Some players will deal with all of this coming at them faster and better than others (i.e. "pro ready"). But that doesn't mean that come year 2 or year 3 those players will still be better overall.

I was obviously against signing him in any way cause I don't think he is a good QB at all and even the plays he can make are not a fit for this offense, but I was thinking, if he is indeed committed to a NFL comeback, they can sign him for free in a cheap prove it deal, design a few plays for him to fool some idiots GMs and then trade him the next year for like a 2nd or 3rd rounder?

And in the remote case he surprises us with excellent QBing, then that's a nice problem to have.

His glass is full of water. The glass of wine presumably belongs to whoever is taking the photo. That he can be around wine and not drinking it is a good sign if it's anything.
Sign the newly sober motivated ex Heisman winning college beast.
Is it possible they promised him a job if he can stay sober maybe they are giving him weekly tests or has someone checking in on him who knows.

Other than the sweatshirt, what is there to suggest this dweeb has anything to do with football? I was midly intrigued about Manziel's potential "comeback" until I read that he recently admitted to knowing NOTHING about Xs and Os or how pro offenses are designed to work. Also, he reportedly looked bad in his spring league outing. Stay away, Pats.

BillB is very good at getting the best out of a player.

But.... BillB is NOT a miracle worker when comes to Manziel.

I am very sure Manziel is on Bill's list as it relates to the QB's in this draft. If Belichick doesn't get who he wants - when he wants them then Manziel becomes a backup QB to bridge to next years draft or future free agency availabilities. Also if Bill sees Manziel as better than Hoyer then he will be here ... there's no emotion in any of this in Bill's world.

I believe he probably gets Manziel and drafts one also. Probably release hoyer. If things get real bad, who knows?

For the moment anyways I think a valid discussion over who you want backing up Brady ...
Hoyer or Manziel would be interesting. Manziel isn't starting for anyone and his being a backup somewhere is limited. I think he takes a gig here even if he is competing with Hoyer or a top draft choice.

A younger Hoyer was average/decent - not sold on this Hoyer having the ability to make all the throws needed. If I were choosing I would rather have Manziel over Hoyer. If we take Lamar Jackson ... Manziel would be a better bridge/backup to his talents than Hoyer ... like I said IF???

Glass of wine - not a good image to project (for a supposedly recovering alcoholic)
Maybe its non alcoholic or maybe its his girls.
One would assume that Johnny Football would be smart enough to make sure that he wasn’t putting any posts up on social media that involve alcohol, whether it’s his or not.

Or maybe I’m giving him too much credit.

Naturally, because one of the first things the professionals tell a recovering alcoholic is that they should surround themselves with as much alcohol as possible. Surely, it must mean that he’s matured and working a good program, right?

Hoyer gives you dependability and stability in the backup role. Manziel could blow up two weeks into the season and leave you holding your junk.

That said, if there is even a glimmer of hope and enough talent, someone, even the Pats, should jump, sure. Could be a steal.

There are plenty of QBs with possible upside that don't beat women. That piece of trash can go to hell. I want no part of the moron.

I did not know that - nope, no abusers.

IS Manziel practice squad eligible? I could see the Pats bringing him to camp, and signing him to the practice squad if so. Of course, they most likely stay clear of the distraction he'd be. As a fan I wouldn't mind seeing him get a shot with the team. The kid is, or was, talented.
