I know this isn't a Patriots kind of discussion but I am a little bored during this bye week. So, maybe I am only hearing the biased media here in Indianapolis but why is all the talk about MVP this year go straight to Manning? What has he done this season so far that Breese hasn't? Why does everyone (again, possibly biased media) feel that Manning is a shoe in for MVP?

I think you already answered your own question. I don't know that anybody (outside of Indy) is considering Peyton a shoe-in for the MVP at this point. In fact if anything, I would say Brees probably has a slight edge over Manning right now.

The season's not even half over, so this will probably work itself out over the rest of the season. Both are very good players and as of right now I would have no problem with either one being named MVP.

I think the slight advantage Manning has is that he doesn't have as strong of a running game. IIRC, Brees had the lead early on, but then had those 2 games where the RBs carried the ball a ton. Manning took a slight lead and hasn't given people a reason to doubt him yet.

Assuming neither of them flounders, and no one does anything truely remarkable (16-0, or breaks Marino/Brady's passing records), I'd hope the tie-breaker goes to Brees since he hasn't won one yet. But wouldn't mind too badly if Manning gets #4.

AP...mvp

AP this time...

Manning having a great season, plays at least half his games in a dome.
Brees has been lighting it up since he got to New Orleans with at least half his games in a dome.
Brett Favre looked finished last season but has come back to look as good as ever and plays at least half his games in a dome now.

None of the above for me, I'm thinking AP who deserved it last year also.

Shhhhh......Be quiet Guys......Brady's just behind Brees and Manning

The funny thing is, wheh Peyton was playing like crap through the first 7 weeks in 08, people were already talking about him being MVP, even with the Colts sporting a 3-4 record. Their argument was that, without Manning, that team would be 0-7. That's why he finished with worse stats then a lot of players and still was MVP.

This year, a completely retooled Patriots team is 5-2 and you hear noone even commenting on the possibility of Tom being MVP. I don't think he is playing the best football in the league right now, but an argument was made for Manning when he and his team were performing much worse.

No running game? Who's fault is that? 2 #1 draft choices at RB, and an O-line put together by Polian, while the defense has 6 DBs out there at all times.

Uh, you better be able to run under those conditions.

It's not even week 8 yet. If I had to pick right now, I'd say Brees, but I have a sneaking suspicion that our TFB could very well be in the discussion by week 16.

It was sad how Manning got the MVP last year, despite not having that impressive of a year. Hell by the standards with which he won, Matt Cassel should've been considered.

This year, Manning looks like the front runner through 6 games, but Brees & Big Ben aren't far behind. TfB will have to put on a show for the last 9 games, but stats wise he's right in the mix. If the Pats go 12-4 with their schedule and Brady has similar #s as the other 2, imho, the Colts or Saints would HAVE to be 14-2 at worst and have victories over the Pats to be considered ahead of Brady.

People weren't talking about Manning until they started their winning streak. At that time it became clear that Manning was carrying the team on his back.

Let me start of by saying Manning is a great QB. One of the best ever. But if its a comparison of Manning and Brees for the MVP, its Brees by a long shot. Even talking about this after week 7 is silly, but thats what message boards are for. The fact is Manning has had an absolute cupcake of a schedule so far and has faced some of the worst defenses in the league. It amazes me how these so called "experts" like to point out how Brady is had his best games against the easy teams, yet praise Manning despite having the easiest schedule to date in the NFL. Look at some of these facts:

Opponents record: Manning:11-26 (.297), Brees 19-20 (.487), Brady 20-25 (.444)

Opposing teams played avg. NFL ranking in passing yards allowed per game: Manning: 25, Brees: 13, Brady: 16

Opposing teams played avg. NFL ranking in TD's allowed per game: Manning: 20, Brees: 13, Brady: 13

Opposing teams played avg. NFL ranking in defensive QB rating allowed: Manning: 23, Brees: 11, Brady: 15

Opposing teams played avg. NFL ranking in points allowed per game: Manning: 21, Brees: 17, Brady: 14

Man just look at what Peyton has done to those defense's stats. He has jacked them for the season already.

A similar argument could be made regarding the patriots, although we chose not to use a second first for a running back, instead acquiring a HOFer.

that would be good reasoning if both Brady and Brees had the same results. Considering all three QB's (esp. Brees and Manning) have extremely similar stats. Brees results on opposing teams defenses should be equal to Mannings. Since they are not, then its due to the fact that the defenses Manning has played against are letting other teams they play have similar results as Mannings. Not so for Brady and Brees.

Nice try though. A for effort.

As of right now, I don't think very many non-patriot fans would argue with Manning, Brees and Favre as AFC MVP, NFC MVP and comeback player of the year.

Yes, of course, as Manning did last year, Brady could lead our team to 12-4 and play himself to an MVP. But do understand that going into the season, the patriots were expected to go 13-3 and were Super Bowl favorites. There was great difference of opinions with regard to the colts. Many thought that the colts wouldn't make the playoffs. The difference between being a mediocre team and being one of the two best at this point is the play of Manning. This is the DEFINITION of being an MVP. So in the end, the patriots could be in the championship game and Manning could still be the MVP.

But the fact is that the colts don't have much of a running game, and the team rides on the backs of Manning, Wayne and Clark.

If Manning is in the conversation, he'll be given the award. I think they'd give it to him every single year if they could.

Actually, if things go according to the Patriots plan, TFB should be a lock for this, IMO. Favre, retirement shenanigans notwithstanding, never left the game in reality, and had a good year with the Jests until his end of the season "injury" (oops we forgot to list him on the reports ) meltdown. :confused2:
