Mallett already comparing himself to Brady

Yep,can you name another HOF first ballot guaranteed QB right now that has played like Brady and Manning since 1996??

How can you say a player of that caliber "comes around once every 15 or 20 years" and list 2 players? Wouldnt that be twice every 15 or 20 years.

right now Ryan Mallett is more than half right in his assessmentof the situation. Tom Brady was an understudy of Drew Bledsoe much like Ryan Mallett is an understudy to Tom Brady. What I admire about right now is his ability to throw the ball and his presence in the pocket is commendable. I see him much more mobile than our superstar Tom Brady, but he will not replace him anytime soon. I see him as a very successful backup and understudy of Tom Brady. The sky is the limit on Ryan Mallett. I hope he appreciates the great potential of this organization and the position he is in. I hope he understands the Aaron Rodgers instance and how successful he became from being on the shelf and learning to be a better QB from a very experienced mentor in Brett Favre.

You're delusional about the kid. His pocket presence is highly questionable under any kind of pressure and he makes Tommy look like a roadrunner... He's reportedly outstanding at diagnosing plays on the blackboard, he's decent at reading pre-snap defenses but his achilles heel is post snap reads and blitz pickup. Wait til he experiences that at this level...

Ryan Mallett is tall and he has a strong arm he tends to rely on and he's a questionable decision maker. His dad was a coach. Sound familiar?? Hopefully Belichick can make him into a starting QB somewhere in this league, they don't all play a complicated sight adjusted system like we do. He will be under contract here for 3 or 4 years TOPS depending on the CBA or lack thereof... He will have to beat out Hoyer if he's even to stick on the roster past this season. Otherwise they won't be trading Hoyer in 2012 and they'll be drafting another developmental QB...

It would be nice if people actually read things properly first before sprouting off at the keyboard. Mallett never compares himself against Tom Brady he likens characteristics to Tom Brady.

Honestly...

i think his point was how can 2 players playing at the same time be a "once" in 15-20 year players... if there are 2 of them

that's what i was thinking. In the article, i took his comments to say that he and Brady had the same footwork in the pocket and he was similar to Brady in that aspect. He did not say that he was as good as Brady in breaking down defenses, but the way they broke them down was similar.

Listen to BB about what he thinks about Mallet. When was the last time BB raved about a rookie. He think Mallet is a film rat and football is his number one passion. Whether he pans out to be any good remains to be seen, but to hear BB talk about a rookie the way he does is remarkable.

Well see how much patience Mallett will have behind Brady in year-1, and in year-2...

Brady picks apart NFL Defenses.
Mallet picks apart college Defenses.

Big difference at this stage in his career.

Ryan Mallett says he's just like Tom Brady - NFL- nbcsports.msnbc.com

I like the kids enthusiasm but seriously, you can't jump out and compare yourself in any which way to one of the greatest QBs of all time when you haven't thrown a pass in a regular season game yet, whether that is a complimentary statement or not.

As the other link shows,he is now doing the 'disrespect' card of Miami passing on him and wants revenge....sound familiar like Brady and the long wait in 2000

I truly think the aura of playing on the same team as Brady has gotten in this kids brain, he needs to realize that unless another Pollard type hit lands on Brady,he may have a LONG wait until he can show anything.

Do you like the enthusiasm or is it a little premature and out of bounds?

Meh. I'll chalk it up to rookie over-exuberance. No foul called.

His jets will be cooled once this whole CBA mess gets resolved, players get on the field in August and Patrick Chung hits him on a QB scramble. But even worse, hes sitting in a room at 11pm at night with BB going over film and hes torn apart like a turkey on Thanksgiving.

Did you guys even READ what he said in that article?

""Me and Tom are kind of the same," he said. "We're not fleet of foot, obviously. We don't run fast. We pick defenses apart and we know what's going to happen before the snap or we react post snap and that's why I think I'm like him a lot.""

There's nowhere that he says he's as good as Tom Brady. He's just comparing their style of play, physical similarities, the way they like to know exactly what's going on with the defense before and after the snap, etc. Sheesh. somebody's reading way too much into that.

And as far as 'vowing payback' against the Dolphins? Hell yeah, he already hates one of our DIVISION RIVALS! That's a GOOD THING in my book!

“They took another guy,” Jim Mallett said. “Ryan said, ‘Payback.’ He remembers it all.”

Oh and his supposedly being 'a jerk' was a result of his ultra-compeitiveness and demanding the best from the other players on the field. Does that remind us of anyone else we know?

On the field, he risked being a jerk by asking others to work similarly.

“He had such a drive and it made everyone around him the same way,” Texas High coach Barry Norton said. “He was intolerable of people that weren’t working as hard.”

So is it ok for JD Drew to say hes a lot like Ted Williams because he hits left handed, runs slow and draws a bunch of walks?

Rookies should NEVER mention themselves in the same breath as certain HoFs. You just don't do it.

Like I said, the kid gets a pass.

i know all he said was he's kinda like Brady and he wants to make all the teams that did not pick him pay... but the only thing i wanna hear from a 3rd round pick is im going to work hard to make the team anything more then that is uncalled for IMO

I feel a lot safer in Mallett comparing his characteristics to Tom Brady than say Joey Harrington or David Carr.

Much ado about nothing to be honest.

Mallett doesn't sound like a very bright guy.

Brady may have been scarred by his draft but he kept it mostly private and channeled his energy into proving everyone wrong over several long years of hard work and private determination.

Some red flags for me about Mallett:
1. His last 2 years he was the starting QB but both years was not voted a team captain any season.
2. I saw some NFL analytics article that showed something where against the top college competition, Mallett had 7 TD's and 7 int's, which was pretty Peyton Manning-esque on the college level against top competition.

my fellow patriot brother You are looking at this instance very myopically.

Both QB's were drafted in rounds they did not deserve to be drafted in. He is like Tom Brady in the sense that both of these players have great mentors.

I see the comparisons of draft and mentors whycan't you

FYI you should care
OK. It really doesnt matter to me who you compare to who. Players with things in common sometimes are similar players and sometimes are not.
My point was simply that the article was sensaltionalizing.
I don't know why I would care about what Ryan Mallett has to say in an interview before ever having a practice.

That's bullshizen. He was a team captain.

Draft Winds: Lies, damn lies and Ryan Mallett

I hate to labour a point but if Mallett is the bad guy that everyone points to, how come so many players, coaches, etc., defend him? What do they have to gain? There’s a popular myth among draft fans and writers that Mallett wasn’t a team captain during his tenure at Arkansas. This is untrue. Not only was he one of six captains in 2010, he was also team captain in 2009. What’s remarkable about that is that both times it was voted for by the players. And the first time they voted, Mallett was embroiled in a battle with redshirt freshman Tyler Wilson for the starting QB job. Petrino was splitting reps at the position and yet the team had already decided which player they wanted as their leader.

True. We know both those QB's are epic fails. If they came out and said something of that sort, I'd be ROTFLMFAO

With Mallett, we don't know but are curious about the kid's moxie.

All Mallett does is point out similarities. The rest is a journalist trying to get air time by sensationalizing what he said. (I guess Ryan didn't get the memo that the media really don't play fair and that he should just shut up.)

I have no idea whether Ryan Mallett is the next re-incarnation of Tom Brady or Jamarcus Russell, but this quote tells me nothing.

Let's see what happens when he walks through the doors of the clubhouse and then when he "laces 'em up and steps between the white lines."

Until then, everything else is nonsense.

The real red flag would be comparing your characteristics to Peyton Manning. That's instant grounds for dismissal.

(P.S yes I respect Manning as the 1B to Brady's 1A QB status and the above mentioned was a joke before Colts trolls flip into fits of hysteria).

I'm sure that the kid has made some mistakes in life that have contributed to his drop in draft value, but IMO there is no question that the mediots are "piling on" and sensationalizing his comments.
