Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

You need to save that **** for someone else because Belichick winning is more of product of Tom Brady being the best player in the league for the better part of the last 2 decades than it is him. The fact is Belichick routinely gets out coached in Super Bowls and Brady has to pull out a game winning drive for us to win. We label Brady willing us to success in the second half halftime adjustments by Belichick. It is complete garbage if you take Brady off this team you have what you had in 2008 a decently coached team that will be a first round playoff team at best.
You are so right!!!!
It's Brady, he is the GOAT.
Where is Gearge Sieffert when you need him.

Why Eagles were thrilled to not see Malcolm Butler

Some interesting stuff here from the Eagles perspective on the Butler benching. They were surprised as anyone when they saw Chung in there instead.

Also, it appears they relied heavily on the Carolina game where we struggled with bunch formations. It would appear Matt Patricia never really fixed the D.

No, he shouldn't. It was a terrible coaching decision that he'll probably later admit to in a memoir or an interview, but he's still by far and away the best coach in the game.
What about if he has lost the locker room and Brady.. not saying he has.. I am just saying that this is a lot weirder than usual. lol

He was man-to-man with Ertz.

That’s what I was thinking and another poster said he was wiped out on a pick play so that would explain why Ertz was wide open.

Rowe did not know he was starting until the last minute........who is lying?
I dunno know.

My question is it common practice in NE to tell players during the week they are starting?

that would be how they practice, no? If Butler didn't practice with the 1st unit last week, then this is a nothing-burger

You mean Rowe - Not Chung

He would have had better coverage on Agholor than either Chung or Richards did.

Agholor killed us. This thing was a last minute decision and i will stick by it! It seems like it threw the defense off.

Yeah, how dare BB come up a strip fumble short of winning a third championship in 4 years. For ****s sake we didnt even make it to the SB in 2015. This is embarrassing. Amirite ?

Meanwhile Hue is 1-31...
I'm starting to lean toward Brady as the reason. I actually think the 30 for 30 thing, though fascinating.. shed some light on some of his shadiness.. I knew it all and experienced it all.. but the shenanigans were more distasteful to me now.

He is lucky he found Brady.

Me thinks this will be moved to the Malcolm Butler Mega Thread soon.....

I'll be honest, I don't see the play that Butler would have definitely stopped. He's tenacious and unafraid, but he's on the short side for a #1 corner and he can get outmuscled by big receivers. the Eagles aren't a great matchup for what he is.

That's probably not why he was benched, but it is why I'm not sure that benching or not benching Butler is as pivotal as people seem to think it is.

Jeffery td doesn’t happen with Gilmore on him and Butler on Alghor. All damn week we all talked about how Gilmore would erase Jeffery and he did. Unfortunately for us he did his damage already

Certainly this is a talented team. My major worry is that the core group that came into the league around 2009-11 (primarily Edelman, Amendola, Gronk, McCourty, and Chung) are heading towards the back ends of their prime and Brady's at the age where he may fall apart at any moment.

That said, a lot of the core group is young enough (Hightower, Harmon, Cannon, Mason, Cooks, Gilmore, Flowers, White, Burkhead, Lewis if he comes back) and there are some guys who recently entered the league who are getting better (Thuney, Wise).

Keep in mind Edelman didn't play a down in anger this year; nor did their first draft pick. They're in good shape. They do need a pass rusher or two, a linebacker, a starting-caliber corner, a young safety to develop, a developmental quarterback, and to bring back Lewis. They may need a left tackle, though Cannon's an all-pro caliber right tackle and Fleming and Waddle acquitted themselves well enough that they might feel comfortable working one of them in.

Interestingly, this is a free agent class with a number of good, young safeties, though I suspect they'll try to address that through the draft since McCourty, Chung, and Harmon are all playing at a high level. Tre Boston (who might be the league's best safety), Eric Reid, and Lamarcus Joyner are all free agents. Ricardo Allen is a RFA. On the defensive line, Sheldon Richardson would go a long way. They have money.

I doubt he has lost the locker room or Brady. We'd be seeing signs of that in the postgame pressers.

yes there is no question the morale of the whole defense was impacted. I mean how is he planning on disciplining the players who are saying so? Hightower for example when he comes back.. Should he be benched for liking Browner's anti-Belichick tweets? I would think that would be consistent.

I also think Hightower being willing to "like" such a blatant tweet has to be very telling.

He would have had better coverage on Agholor than either Chung or Richards did.

Luckily I saw you already posted this or I would be accused of plagiarism Chung was wasted on Agholor, putting him in the slot was really dumb decision.

The Eagles are about as befuddled about Butler as the rest of us. But they gladly accepted what we gave them.

the eagles trick play was the SAME EXACT PLAY that patriots tried earlier in the game, Foles had an easier catch then brady did.

Slightly different, the Eagles essentially put Foles in motion and did a direct snap to the RB. Great design, perfectly executed.
