Mac Not Happy With the Groceries

Then you don't watch football. The Browns were loading up like crazy when Baker got there. You can't even compare the two offenses. And they still have the same stats.

Do me a favor, go to anywhere and say Baker's Browns were less talented than the current Patriots and watch the reactions.

Again, platitudes "we're talking about the Cleveland Browns here". No the fact is the Browns had a lot of talented pieces on the offense they gave Baker and the whole league was recognizing it. The Browns saw Baker as such a problem holding back a good team that they decided to drop their pants for a sexual assaulter knowing they would be the bad guys in that scenario because they knew what Baker was.

You just keep repeating the same talking points with zero data behind it and then ignore everything that goes against your narrative.
I can't believe what I'm reading. First off, we can cut to the chase with the fact I said Baker even now is a better QB with Mac, and that has little to do with the talent around him. It's irrelevant to the fact that he's a better QB.

He got beat yesterday badly on one play. He's been playing really well otherwise. Everyone gets beat badly. We're taking 9 step drops out there because our guy can't stay in the pocket without cowering. So Brown cheats to the outside and then wiffs on an inside move. If you don't see that Brown is having a good year, I can't help you.

Brown has had games where he played well and others when he was bad. Yesterday, he was absolute garbage. Totally gave up.

That said. I am not giving him any blame on a lot of Mac's worst plays.

Also, you criticize me for lack of engagement (when others are sick of my long replies) yet you start posting with claims of "You don't watch football"! Which is the lamest response of all the butthurt posters who really mean "You don't agree with me and I'm the ultimate football expert authority!"

Goff is barely decent, but sure, give me Goff or Carr with a healthy shoulder and this offense would improve immensely.

Just stop turning the ball over…

Improve maybe. Immensely? No definitely no

3 sacks in 3 games, two came yesterday on a Hail Mary attempt at the end of the half.

Ryan Clark said the same exact thing at halftime yesterday, Mac is getting clean pockets, he's just not making the throws. He was right.
I'm no expert but I don't see many open receivers. Many times I see Jones trying to squeeze passes into spots that are too tight for his skill level.

In today's NYFL we see one or two players can make a huge impact on an offense, players like McCaffery and Kupp for instance. Unfortunately, Bill gets rid of those type players when they cost too much and he doesn't get much in return.

BB has benched Mac twice in the last two games.

Even BB will have to admit he’s a problem sooner than later.

Once again. No one is arguing Mac isn't a problem.

People are arguing the dumb idea that the rest of the roster is actually good.

Admitting the roster is bad does not = defending Mac Jones.

I mean objectively pretending the Browns didn't have talent at that time is about as absurd as you can get.

Look at that last play.

If Mac is setting up there, Brown is never going to get a hand on an edge rusher that deep.

I already acknowledged he made bad plays yesterday

I don't hold the last one against him.

I would maybe blame O'Brien there, but I think O'Brien too is by now really sick of our 3-5 step drop plays. We are severely limited here.

For me, this is a perfect example of putting an OL in a horrible position, then blaming it on them. I've seen this repeatedly in college where OLs seem not to be doing their job, but it's the QB who is inexperienced (it's college!!) and who doesn't know how to set up his pocket.

I don't want Zappe to start because I think he gives the team even less of a chance to win games, but I do recognize he steps into the pocket, sets his feet, seems calm, not jittery, and he doesn't throw off his back foot. If only he could throw the ball!

Yeah but you haven't provided any reason for why Baker is better. The stats haven't backed that up and Baker has historically had the advantage of better offenses around him. So what's your metric? Cause it sounds like it's just feelings

Here's the deal, Mac shouldn't be the QB next year. But if he's the only thing that changes, the results won't be much different. Baker isn't changing anything and someone better at their greatest aspirations might get this to around .500. But this is a bad team. It's deeper than the QB.

For people complaining about footwork and things like that....

GEE, DID SOMETHING HAPPEN LAST YEAR? DID HE GET AWFUL COACHING IN A YEAR HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN GETTING HIS SKILLSET IN SHAPE?

It's not like it was a total clown show in the offensive coaches' room. /sarcasm
You mean last year when Corky went outside the team looking or coaching? Why didnt Tom House or whoever Corky worked with as his chosen coach do something to fix it? Or is that part of what broke him?

that’s what Zappe did last year. When he started the Patriots won. And those 2 games were the best the offense looked in the last 2 years
Not really.

Because there is a contingent on this board that are too homerish to just accept a bad team for what it is and how long and how much work it will take to get out of it. So instead we have to deal with people who can't deal with reality looking for a quick fix and the QB is the easiest one. The funniest thing is I wasn't high on drafting Mac, I wasn't slobbering him in 2021 like many of the people I'm arguing with now. But a lot of us saw this coming with how bad this team is and now that we are saying "no take a step back, it's way deeper than the QB" the homers have developed their strawman that people who think the team isn't as bad as it is are just Mac truthers. I don't give a **** about Mac. There's at least 15 QB's I'd take in his place in a heartbeat. But those QB's will still suck here. They'd merely be an upgrade for when the team gets it together and actually builds something worth being called a football team

That has to be what it is. Because even if someone hates Mac Jones. No one can watch this roster and truly believe it's good.

I asked if someone can name me 3 players on our offense they would want to build around or could see here in 5 years. Crickets...

They know the roster isn't good. But that would admit bill is a bad GM and we have another lost season and may need 2 drafts of just offensive players to field a competent offense.

Bill had to spend big in 2020 FA on offense because the roster was devoid of talent or anyone young to build around. And since then Bill has continued to ignore that side of the ball.

I mean objectively pretending the Browns didn't have talent at that time is about as absurd as you can get.
We're talking about the perpetually pathetic Cleveland Browns. Coached by people who never had any success as HCs in the NFL. To compare their ineptitude to the situation here is irrelevant. We're comparing players: Mayfield to Mac Jones right now.

Baker Mayfield sucks. But he's better than Scott Secules.

He also said Mac wasn't the only problem.

Shh doesn't fit the narrative. This is a championship caliber roster.

We just need a new QB to unlock Juju and Trent brown.

He has to consider Mac’s state of mind and his locker room. BB will be praising Mac the same time he is benching him.

He needs to bench Mac, he’s playing horribly.
Zappe was so bad in training camp they cut his ass. Mac hasn’t been good, but his surrounding cast is the far bigger issue.
