Patriots Player Departure Mac Jones traded to Jags for a 6th

Looking at some big boards, this is not a throw away pick. There will be some quality players left. Especially at RB, a position now under valued in the NFL. A fan favorite could be Dylan Laube, if he lasts that long. Other quality RB's will be around as well.
What round do you think that Issac Guerendo will go in? He's 6'0 and about 221 and ran a 4.33 40 and considered a Dual-Role Back.

His only "good," turnover free performance came against the Jaguars... a team that finished 2021 with a bottom five defense and the worst record in the entire NFL.
If I recall correctly, half the Jags were out with covid.

I still have problems dealing with the QB I saw in 21 to the one I saw in 23, when he was the BEST rookie QB of the first round picks. Usually guys get better with time and experience. But in the end no one is 100% to blame on this. Bill was a major factor of course, but Mac's response to adversity wasn't exactly ideal either. And finally his on field performance definitely was NOT sustainable. His play and attitude made it impossible for him to lead that locker room back to respectability.

I believe he STILL can be a productive NFL if he landed in the right situation in Jacksonville. Time will tell. Hopefully by the end of next week we will have signed a vet and the QB strategy (whatever that is) will start to take shape. There are a LOT of decent looking possibilities. Cases can be made for most of them. Some of course look better than others, but it is necessary to separate those QB's who are available and those who might be willing to come to a program where the offense is essentially rebooting

My list would include, Minchew, Wentz, Brissette, and JG in that order. I wouldn't mind even taking a flyer on someone like Sam Darnold who as listed as being just 26.

I think it would be highly unlikely at this point to think that we aren't going to use the #3 pick to draft the 3rd QB available. I think that will be Maye, btw, but I'd be just as happy with JD (who I think has the highest ceiling, but also the lowest floor of the 3)
He can't throw an out. Teams figured that out late in his rookie season when he began to struggle. By season 2, they flooded the middle of the field where he lived and breathed. It was over. They adjusted to him and he showed he's nothing more than a backup at best.

He's not the first one that had some success until DCs figured out what he couldn't do on the field.

Not much space in the NFL for QBs who can't throw long and who can't throw to the boundaries.

In that Bills playoff game, he had a wide open WR breaking to the left corner of the end zone, and the Bills safety Hyde came clear across the field from the other side to intercept it. That's how long it took to get there. That throw encapsulated him perfectly. More than the INT to Indy this year.

Let's see what the Bears get for Fields if they move him, or the JEST get for Wilson.
Forgot about Wilson. Wonder if that Jags pick could be used for Wilson. Any takers? (jk)

Agreed. Defenders see him on the schedule
And lick their chops. Waiting for it. The guy had 6 pick 6’s in 3 years. He does not have enough zip on the security blanket sideline throw to be effective in this league.

While I agree, Purdy has a pretty putrid arm and he's doing just fine. I can't argue his attitude, timing, decision making, arm and foot mechanics though.

I'll always go back to the Ravens game in 2022, the game where he was hurt on the last play of the game, early in the Matt Patricia reign as OC. They lost an exciting game where Agholor fumbled a catch & run with 3+ minutes left as the Pats were driving to take the lead.

Mac threw a bad INT to Parker earlier in the game, though many felt that Parker ran the wrong route. He threw another bad pick in the middle of the field which some were saying was Patricia's fault for not setting up the play action. Regardless, they looked like bad INT's on Mac, and he was plagued with those this past season.

On the other hand he passed for about 350 yards including 185 to Parker, led the offense really well all day, and also scrambled extremely well which I never saw from before or since. After that game I was convinced he could be the one. He showed a high ceiling against a quality opponent.

Then he was hurt (ankle) on a cheap shot on the last play, missed a month, and he was never that same guy again. He teased us with that brief display, and it was pretty much all downhill from there.
Agholor cost me hundreds of thousands of Dingle Dollars with that fumble (he finished 3 total yards short) and it was the start of my downward spiral.

I thought that Mac was okay after his first season even though he took a lot of hits that year.

I don't really agree that his arm was the problem. It was his decision-making when throwing on the run and when under pressure in the pocket. His arm was good enough to win in this league - e.g., the same arm as Tannehill or Purdy.

A 5th would have been nicer, but a 6th whatever.

Not really clear why all the love for Wilson in this thread.

LOL at Belichick mistake. He was right not to want him. Watch the draft video. It's clear.
We did.

Bill: Yup, I'm good with it.

The Mac Jones era is now over. Yet another Belichick mistake has been shipped out.

For those who still believe in Mac. At least he gets a more relaxed job as understudy for Trevor Lawrence. And he got to return to his hometown of Jacksonville.

Time to turn the page. It's Ovah!!!
Agreed 100%, I thought we'd at least get a 5th.. being that Lance went for 4th.. it's really telling how bad last season was.

You'd think they could have gotten more than just a sixth-rounder, that's disappointing. But closing the book on him seems the primary goal here.
Nah not if it’s just one year. His option isn’t picked up.

Finally he is gone. Blame everyone else for his failure but he must take ownership for his inability and failure to accept the NFL way. (Slow release, can't throw the ball, mentally to slow, & went outside the organization(no good player does that))

A FIRST and get a SIX, need I say more. Patriots made a good trade. If they waited much longer they might have gotten nothing for him, straight release.

I am done with him, took 3 years, he is dead to me.

It'a a fairly high 6th - #13 in that round. He only has 1 year remaining on his contract, so it wasn't a horrible transaction. And better to get this out of the way before every GM's attention turns to free agency.

Well, when the field is shortened on you, and the pressure is on, how do you react? I've seen Purdy get whacked, and still deliver the ball. He seems to have little regard for his own well-being. Herbert has those traits as well. The two of them stand in there like Steve Grogan. If they stand in there like Joe Kapp, that's when I get worried.
