Looks like Wilson and Hobbs are our starting CBs

Wilson cautioned not to read too much into the change, saying he's worked at cornerback each of the last three training camps to improve his versatility, a sought-after trait by the Patriots. That might be the case, and Wilson might ultimately return to safety, but yesterday it was a return to his roots.
So I'm not willing to buy into it too much just yet.

^your really wrong then because Jones was said to play OLB in nickel situations and such

Ok so he got some work at a position that we are thin at, what is your point? His primary role will be special teams not at starting safety, that is the message I was trying to get across.

Jones, Mitchell and Guss Scott are all here to play special teams, and specifically to compete for gunner. I don't see BB counting on Jones as a starting safety, although he COULD be ahead of Sanders, and could start if Wilson played corner and Harrison were still out.

so will almost every player not starting..he will be a ST. Jones actually has a good chance of starting over Hawkins and Sanders next to Geno at start of season if Rodney cant go. Hes not here only to play ST but some good depth

Only on plays were tackling isn't a big requirement. I'm thinking he can be a great gunner and turn the returned inside so someone can make the tackle.

still going from what happened in the past? he used to force a lot of fumbles..as a Saint recorded 101 tackles..he can tackle stop crying about what happend before. i didnt make up about probably playing..BB said he was going to try and use Jones as a OLB in nickel or dime to cover TEs and blitz. i know he was brought in to be part of our ST because hes a good player on kick off. will he get playing time defensivly? i have no doubt he will if Rodney is hurt

TBKY's greatest fault on D was that he did not take the right angle as a safety in persuit. As a resuly, he often ran over other defenders (Milloy, CBs) in his vain attempt to stop the play. Result, long gainers.

I do not see him as 2nd team safety with Harrison out at the start of the season.

Crying? Just stating what he did for the last 6 years or so. I liked his hard hits (even if a lot of them seemed to be on Milloy). But if the hit didn't knock the ball carrier down, Jones sure wasn't going to tackle him. It was like he wore boxing gloves or something.

You have some lofty expectations of Jones. The only way he gets playing time on defense is if we lose a bunch of DB's again.

OR LIKE I SAID 500 TIMES BB SAID HES GONNA TRY HIM AT OLB ON NICKEL PLAYS because hes a better cover man

Ah, but there is good news. I've seen two reports that Jones looked slow on the practice field. Maybe he won't be able to get to our DBs in time to knock them out of the play anymore.

I've disagreed with alot of things that you've said, but this by far takes the cake. If you think Hobbs wont work as a starter, please at least come up with some viable reasons, not just his height. Silly. Pointless.

While I disagree with NEM that Asante or Gay would be a better starting CB than Hobbs, I don't find his opinion that outragious.

If this one takes the cake, you must have forgotten about his glowing opinions of Tony Simmons, JR Redmond (sp?), and Tommy Knight.

Of course, we all have mistakes... I'm sticking to my guns about TBC having a break out year and that will probably come back to bite me.

...and to the following: Curtis Jackson, Walter Williams, Cedrick Cobbs, Donald Hayes, and several others whose names I have thankfully forgotten.... I say thanks a lot for making me eat all that crow.

Suddenely, TBC has the urge to cross his fingers and sing Hail Mary.

I think this whole thread is hilarious (not that anyone cares).

Well it's day four of camp and Geno is still woking 1st team corner. Is that hilarious?

The reports say he's playing corner. Not necessarily 1st team though. I've seen various reports stating various CB combinations on the 1st team.

Today's didn't but I believe Saturday the first team secondary was listed as Geno\Hobbs\Hawkins\Sanders. I will try to find it. IMO I think Geno will be the day 1 starter at Corner with Hobbs. Hawkins and Harrison IMO will be the Safeties.

From Tomase's Blog titled Day 3 Practice

The team continued to mix and match defensive backs. Eugene Wilson, again, played just about every snap at corner, paired on the first team with Ellis Hobbs, Artrell Hawkins and James Sanders. Meanwhile, Mel Mitchell saw snaps at corner, while Chad Scott played at safety and slot corner. Sanders even moved down to play nickel linebacker in the team’s sub packages.

He worked with the 1st team on Days 1 and 3 for sure and he worked at corner on days 2 and 4. Why do so many people have a problem buying that the Pats are seriously looking to move Geno back to CB? He was a second round pick as a CB and was only moved to safety out of need and now Safety is our depest position in our secondary and CB is an area where we struggled last year. By moving Geno back to corner it allows Asante to become the Nickel Back, Hawkins to assume a starting role at safety (which he proved last year that he can be a leader in a young secondary and that he can play the position) Sanders to get a lot of time during pre-season with Rodney still rehabbing. I just don't understand why this is being received with such negativity here.

It's just negative board backlash. We've heard it speculated sooo many times in the past, the knee-jerk reaction now is just to bash it as a realistic probability. Quick, start a thread suggesting that this is the year we switch to a 4-3 and see what I mean.

Personally, I've always been against moving Wilson to CB because of his performance and comfort at FS... but I'm starting to think that maybe BB is trying to figure out how to keep Hawkins on the field once Rodney comes back. I don't know, I've given up trying to out guess BB.
