Cut downs are near at hand. What are our positional weaknesses and which team have an abundance of riches in those areas that might have to be pared and placed on waivers? We get to pick fourth in the waivers process.

Bumping this thread because it’s a good topic. I think in general we could use depth at all positions across the board, not just some. We have some decent front line talent — even really good at some positions like CB — but if any of those guys get hurt, the drop off can be steep.

For a specific position where the cupboard is bare, if we want to use the FB we can stand some major improvement. But how many teams use them and will cut guys better than what we have now?

Always nice to focus on last year’s playoff teams as a source for talent…. They made the playoffs for a reason. Maybe KC’s playoff run was more QB/Spags/Ref driven so their leftovers may not be as good to dumpster dive from, but the others are.

Third TE/FB jumps out.

Maybe third QB, another RB, and CB. And an interior lineman would be appreciated.

It's pretty much a complete rebuild, so it's amazing there aren't more actually.

Left Guard
Center
Backup QB
RB #4
FB
TE #3

That's a lot to ask for at this time of the year, but that's the state of a rebuilding team.

Haven't focused on any other teams enough to know who might be waived that would provide this team with an upgrade.

I’d keep my expectations in check. Last year the Pats had the 3rd waiver claim and were awarded 4 players- OT Demontrey Jacobs, OL Zach Thomas. DT Eric Johnson and LB Curtis Jacobs. All but Demontrey Jacobs are already gone.

Teams don’t release guys who are ready to play and contribute so don’t expect immediate upgrades but projects to be developed. One place where the Pats were successful in upgrading the talent base was poaching to their practice squad.2024 draftees cut by other teams with the intention of signing them to practice squad. Both DJ James and Miles Battle were obtained that way and have upgraded the Pats DB depth this preseason.

I think the talent level in the NFL has dropped significantly, because it's been years since you could find decent players among the cutdowns.

Those days are gone when teams were letting go of talented players.

A weak roster that needs to be cut down. A strong roster that needs to be cut down. I would think those released from the latter would be stronger than the marginal ones who survive the initial cuts in the former.

But the good team gets to keep 55 players. The stronger team is stronger because players 1-55 are stronger than the weaker team. There are exceptions mostly from a team having an excess at a certain position, but overall the talent level of players 55-90 is not much different from a good team compared to a bad team. They mostly are prospects in need of development to be solid contributors.

Anything with the word 'Backup' before the position.

Just watched the game…FF through the commercials and halftime was nice.

Man…I gotta say Bedard is spot on.

We have no depth.

Our second string is too full of bad football players.

Probably too much to ask, but I deadass think the Pats should replace 7-10 players who initial make it with cuts from other teams. It’s that bad.

Also, I’m not sure we have a backup QB at all.

Dobbs has been awful and wooldridge is a less talented Zappe with the batted balls.

O-line backups are atrocious.

Still a long way to go rebuilding this roster.

And they say you can't learn anything from the last preseason game.
I watched Sidy Sow get absolutely turned around at least 4 times and rag dolled.

That isn’t scheme…that’s just “dude got his ass whipped” . That said, I had him as a cut anyway.

You shouldve FF the game and watched the commercials

This last preseason game has reinforced my opinion that the Pats will be active on the waiver wire.
???

Last year rhe team was much worse. We claimed 4 players off the waiver wire on Cutdown Day. Jacobs was the best of those.

Why do you think that we will be more active. And why do you think that we'll folks worth keeping?

You did miss some prime Amazon Arc Al Michaels though. Him ****ting on Ryan Fitzpatrick's career sitting right next to him for a good half hour was must-see.
Definitely awkward.

Definitely awkward.
Especially with Herbstreit right there on the other side, who didn't even get a cup of coffee in the NFL, must have been thinking 'Holy **** this guy was in the league 17 years'.
