Lions to keep Matt Millen despite continuous losing

Actually, the more I think about it, I bet Bill Ford has been pulling his hair out and been too busy trying to fix his car company than to have time to see what his football team is doing. WHY does Matt Millen still have a job!?!? He is the Isiah Thomas of the NFL, without the HOF career.

hahaha, I think I'd fall off my chair if that happened.

The problem is that WR is still a need for the team, due to completely missing on Mike Williams and the collarbone guy.

Hell, everything is a need for that team.

Well, many of us get addicted to things that are bad for us, maybe the Lions are addicted to losing?
That may be truer than you think. Consider this quote from the article (emphasis mine):

"I really don't want to be one or two," receiver Roy Williams said. "I'd rather be picking 31st."

Did you all hear the latest idiocy to come out of the mouth of the Dope, Matt Millen?

He said that the Lions were just as good as the other 31 teams who don't win the Super Bowl. Right, like I'd just as soon have a team that goes 3-13 every year than one that gives its fans an exciting run into the playoffs during the regular season.

Wow, so even in their dreams of winning, they still lose the Superbowl. haha

Well, it isn't as if NE hasn't had their share of questionable owners and poor GMs, and many here treat it as a badge of honor that they never turned their back on the team.

Ummm....... for 7 years straight? When did the Pats go 24-72 with no winning seasons and KEEP the GM? They went 27-60 between 1967-1973 but not with the same GM. I know Upton Bell didn't last 7 years and then get extended!

Yes, they were inept. But at least they weren't sitting back content, going around saying "Attaboy!!" to their GM.

Here's what the poor buggers in Detroit have to say. I really do feel sorry for them. No one deserves Matt Millen at GM.

This is a nice excerpt in there:

I've given away my last tickets. 10 years down the drain with only one worthwhile season, my first in 97 when Barry ran for 2k. What makes Millen think that continuing to work will eventually bear better results? You can put a chimp in advanced calculus for 20 straight years and in that 21st year he's still going to fail the class. But the biggest problem is that same chimp would probably have a better grasp of player personnel than Millen.

And don't dare give me injuries as an excuse. The players aren't stupid ... they shut it down when the season goes south just like on every other team. The only difference is that the Lion front office is complicit in the mindset and allows the players to go on IR. Kevin Jones is obviously seriously injured as are others (just like on every team), but what about (Fat) Baby? No way he'd be on IR if the Lions were even mediocre. Same goes for many others.

The serious answer to the question, "Why do the Lions keep Matt Millen?" is because the Fords feel threatened by people who know more than they do. If they didn't ditch Millen for Charley Casserly, they won't ditch him for anyone.

I cannot fathom why an excellent private industry management team like the Fords, can't achieve similar results with their football organization.

Oh, wait...

Maybe they can have Millen set-up their new Chinese manufacturing operation.

Do they have any underachieving headcase receivers in China?

Knowing the Fords their Chinese car will get 40 miles to the gallon.......

Best round of sports jokes I've ever read...
