Lewis' role when Blount returns

Was anyone else impressed with Dion's running last night? He squirmed a good amount of 1 yard runs into 4-5 yard runs.

Weird stat: Vereen never had a 15+ carry game in his career with the Pats. Woodhead had one with a 2.3 ypc. Lewis had 15 carries last night.

Obviously we can't have a 5'6 RB seeing 15-20 carries a game, but could he become our "main" RB with Blount as the fill in?

My biggest gripe with Vereen was he couldn't run at all. It's only been preseason/1 regular season game but Lewis could be our best pass catching runner since Faulk.

Thoughts? I don't see him destined just for pass catching duties.

I think we need to wait and see what Cadet can do but I have to say that after seeing Lewis play last night I am no longer worried about losing Vereen. Dion was awesome.

Lewis can catch the ball, is quick and elusive. He also has no problem sticking his head in there to at least attempt to pick up a blitz or free rusher. All good attributes for a third down back. He'll also make a nice change of pace back with Blount as he can hit the hole quick and put pressure on the LBs who have to cover him. I don't a have a strong sense of his screen game but that could be a potent weapon as well. Nice pickup.

I liked what I saw from Lewis except the way he carried the ball when he had his fumble.

Prior to his fumble I was noticing how he carried the ball (I am sure I was not the only one). It gave me that 'uh oh' 'BB's eventual doghouse' worry. One hand on the ball in traffic + BB = ????.

IMHO that would be too bad if it happens. The guy showed he has some bursts/wheels on him not to mention I saw at least one nice blitz pickup. Provided he doesn't get fumble-itis and this game is indicative of what he can provide, what an excellent find Lewis is not to mention a good compliment to Blount. If the OL plays consistent as well as Lafell comes back, I'm very warm on the chances of the offense being at the top of the heap again.
