LaFell was added to the 53, which unless I'm terribly mistaken now indeed stands at 53.

OK, then -- who is the backup to Vollmer and Fleming?

Kline can kick outside. I think they will help outside with TEs. Suggests Wendell will be active.

I agree that there is likely to be scheme help for the OTs, and definitely so if there are yet further injuries. I share your Kline guess, and I'm also guessing heavy reps for Williams in a TE role.

So what happens if Bowles, against type, rushes few and drops many against that kind of lineup?

Might have to employ the 'Who The Hell Is Eligible' play.

Gronk, Lewis, Chandler, Edelman, LaFell, Amendola. They will also run Blount but I am not as sanguine about that strategy.

This depends, of course, on what shape Lewis is in.

Meanwhile, we'll likely see how rusty LaFell is or isn't ...

Also, he and Amendola may split time in 2 TE sets more than they might in other games, just because he's working his way back.

I have a feeling Bowles is going to rip a page out of the Cowboys 3-2-6 heavy dime playbook.

I guess as one poster said. Our big TE or Kline.

Don't worry though. The Pats have Bequette on speed dial and he can probably play OT I think.

3rd tackle is our 300lbs TE.

Unless something changed this week, Williams has not taken a snap at OT for the Patriots.. in practice or otherwise.

As most agreed on the other thread. We should activate either Clausen or Barker. Barker took lots of TE reps in the preseason.

As far as freeing up a roster spot. Our #6 DE (Rufus Johnson) is injured and could certainly be allowed a few weeks to recover.

Of course, it is possible that, at some point, we decide that we only need 4 or 5 or even 6 safeties on the 53, instead of 7.

Any moves had to be done by 4pm today. They weren't. I'm concerned because of Kline's shoulder injury and Mason's injury..

Collecting safeties is Bill's thing.

"VII Safeties" is the name of his boat, IIRC.

Williams was reportedly getting some first team reps at tackle with the Lions and "coordinator Joe Lombardi called him the most improved offensive player this year."

So, a project, but had some good preseason reps at tackle. How many Oline backups usually suit up game day, two? They must think Cannon's coming back soon.

Detroit Lions swing another trade, ship Michael Williams to Patriots

I agree that our emergency backup tackles would be Kline and Williams. One would think that someone else could likely play outside should an "emergency's emergency" suddenly arise. It wouldn't be ideal, but they must feel as though they can get by.

I'd also agree with you that he will monitor Cannon's situation in the upcoming days, and make his decision for the TNF game vs. Miami in terms of whether he should bring someone up from the PS or not.

Either way, it's probably something that he feels can be managed for the next 4-5 days, then they have a 10+ day break to sort some things out and let Cannon's toe heal up.

I imagine if he thought Causell or a pickup would be better on this notice he would sign them. He did sign an OT and I don't believe it was because his dad played here. Probably, since he's rotated OLine, has a good idea that are backups familiarity is better than teaching someone.

It is a bit disconcerting that there are only 2 bona-fide OTs that are active for today's game.

Why are people assuming Klein is a backup OT today? Has he played the position before? Has he been practicing as one?

Seems like Mike Williams is the emergency OT for today as he played the position last year.

Wonder if BB's makes him eligible if it would be considered illegal?
