I used CBS Sports prospect rankings.

17. J.J. Watt DE Wisconsin
Hands down. I think hes one of the best 3-4 DE's in the draft.

28. Mike Pouncey OG Florida
Mankins will be long gone. We need to strengthen the Oline to protect Brady. Great FEET(had to throw in a Welker comment ), strong is pass blocking and run blocking.

33. Justin Houston OLB Georgia
A Natural Pass Rusher. In Georgia his job was just to rush the passer. Something the Patriots have been missing. He was the best Pass rusher on the board at the time of the CBS Prospect Rankings.

60. Ryan Williams RB Virginia Tech
Not very excited about this pick, but he was the best available on the board along with a need of the Patriots. (Trying to be a realist)

74. Titus Young WR Boise State
Something Brady loves, an exact route runner. Has soft hands and can stretch the field.

92. James Brewer OT Indiana
I know this pick is Meh, but (from CBS Sports) "Has great athleticism for his size and a quick first step off the snap. Has a strong upper body, uses his arms well to knock rushers off their path. Good agility and can move with ease laterally. Has a very quick kick-slide to mirror speed rushers to the outside. Has good awareness and adjusts well to blitzes. Keeps his pad level low and is able to get good leverage for a player of his size. Good quickness and is effective when pulling. Adjusts to spin moves and attacks cut blocks. Gets to the second level quickly. Has quick feet and can lock onto linebackers in the open field. Does not drive defenders out of the play but does a good job occupying them and sustaining his blocks."

Ok Ready for the firing squad. Have at it!

Of those picks Pouncey is the only one I like. But you only have so much to work with with CBS rankings.

Works fine for me. Goes right along the path I see us in needs-wise. DE, OL, OLB then some talent to ease along in the O.... RB. WR cool beans

Titus Young may be as you describe him, but he's also an egotistical loudmouth who can't back up his yapping. Not to mention that he drops way too many balls because he's worried about show-boating instead of making the catch..

Leonard Hankerson is a much better option.,

I didn't see the same board as you. You might post a link next time. For eample, I see Williams at 47, long gone by 60.

COMMENTS

THREE GOOD
17 WATT
We all want him. Some today are suggest that we will be able to get Watt at 15. I love the pick.
28 POUNCEY
I like Pouncey; most now have him gone by 28, even CBS sports. If we want a guard here, then WATKINS is the man.
33 HOUSTON is certainly a value pick at a position fo need. I too like him better than Sheard.
=============
THREE NOT SO GOOD
Brewer is OK value at 92. I think that we need to use more resources on the OL. I suggest:
60 OT: CARPENTER or FRANKLIN or GILBERT
74 OG: BOLING or RACKLEY or WEISNEWSKI
92 CHOOSE A RB (Carter, Jones, Vareen, harper)
125 WR Denarius Moore

No problem with this pick.

28. Mike Pouncey OG Florida

Fine pick but I'm convinced the Pats need to draft Boling...so if this prevents that, look somewhere else.

33. Justin Houston OLB Georgia
A Natural Pass Rusher. In Georgia his job was just to rush the passer. Something the Patriots have been missing. He was the best Pass rusher on the board at the time of the CBS Prospect Rankings.

I'm less concerned about Houston than most. If Belichick plans to let him loose, this works for me.

60. Ryan Williams RB Virginia Tech

Love the pick but hope he slips to #74.

74. Titus Young WR Boise State
Something Brady loves, an exact route runner. Has soft hands and can stretch the field.

Like I used to tell my kids...how about you play with the toys you have before you ask me for a new one.

92. James Brewer OT Indiana

If you don't get a tackle in the 1st 3 picks, Brewer at this position in the draft is an excellent choice.

Flush Titus. Go Boling. Happy, happy, joy, joy.

I would not mind that mock at all. Titus Young intrigues me, he could be a bust or he could be Desean Jackson, maybe worth a shot at catching the latter at #74.

Watt, Pouncey (for guard, he can't long snap), and Houston are all good "need" picks.

Well, since you asked ....

I used CBS Sports prospect rankings.

17. J.J. Watt DE Wisconsin
Hands down. I think hes one of the best 3-4 DE's in the draft.

I agree, but think he's long gone - early enough that BB wouldn't want to spend the picks necessary to go up for him. At #17, I think we're down to Heyward and Wilkerson. Sure, both are ranked lower than #17, but with SDG picking next, I doubt that BB would risk allowing them to snatch up his preference between those two and might make a reach.

28. Mike Pouncey OG Florida
Mankins will be long gone. We need to strengthen the Oline to protect Brady. Great FEET(had to throw in a Welker comment ), strong is pass blocking and run blocking.

Pouncey may well be the best OG in this draft. I'm just not sure that we need the best OG in this draft. I think there are guys available later who will do just as well for us as Pouncey - with Scarnecchia's coaching. Could be an OT here if who ever is left out of the top five appeals (and one or two probably will still be available here). If not, it could be a trade down. If forced to use this pick, though, and somewhat agreeing with the thought that we could use a high-end RB, I'd take Leshoure now over Williams later. Williams' ball-security issues fill me with dread. Leshoure has no ball security issues.

33. Justin Houston OLB Georgia
A Natural Pass Rusher. In Georgia his job was just to rush the passer. Something the Patriots have been missing. He was the best Pass rusher on the board at the time of the CBS Prospect Rankings.

I don't think we need a "pass-rushing OLB" per se. I think we COULD use a third competent all-around OLB though, like Sam Acho, and we can get him later. At this pick, if no trade down, and the desire for a WR, I'd go for Hankerson, who seemed much more NFL-ready at the Senior Bowl than Titus Young.

60. Ryan Williams RB Virginia Tech
Not very excited about this pick, but he was the best available on the board along with a need of the Patriots. (Trying to be a realist)

Maybe Orlando Franklin, if he's in range. Acho if he's not. BTW - WRT Acho, I think he works in BBs system and maybe in Green Bay (though they don't really need him). I have my doubts that he works out well much of anywhere else, though.

74. Titus Young WR Boise State
Something Brady loves, an exact route runner. Has soft hands and can stretch the field.

Acho, if he's not gone by this point and we've spent #60 on Franklin. If no OT by this point via trading around for more picks, I'd go James Carpenter, possible RT, probable OG.

92. James Brewer OT Indiana
I know this pick is Meh, but (from CBS Sports) "Has great athleticism for his size and a quick first step off the snap. Has a strong upper body, uses his arms well to knock rushers off their path. Gets to the second level quickly. Has quick feet and can lock onto linebackers in the open field. Does not drive defenders out of the play but does a good job occupying them and sustaining his blocks."

A shame we missed Jarvis Jenkins, but this pick isn't so "meh" if we haven't managed to snag an OT yet. Not a lot of alternatives I'd be in love with between here and #125 anyway. Maybe a CB, but that's not as much a priority for me as O-line.
