These are all good coaches or else Belichick wouldn’t have kept them all around for years. But, change can be a good thing. All of them have the right to advance their careers, and, if their contracts had expired, the Patriots had no way to stop anyone from leaving.

If you think O'Shea didn't help with Edelman and didn't help with Gordon learning things as quickly as he did, then there is no help for you..

Not to mention that it's ridiculous of you to think that O'Shea didn't help Mitchell and that Mitchell's failure didn't stem from his injuries.

And before you go over-reacting, I am NOT saying that O'Shea is the SOLE reason for their success but he is definitely part of the reason.

Schulpinski. He was the Asst QB coach here. That will be his title in Miami.

How was Daly "passed over"? Daly's only been with the team for 5 years and he was made the D-Line coach after 1.

Flores had been with the team since 2004. He spent time as a scout and then coaching on offense, defense, and special teams. That's why Flores was the Pats defacto DC this year. Cause he'd earned it.

Daly is still very young and only has experience on the defensive side of the ball. BB could very well believe that after having lost Patrick Graham last year and losing Flores, Boyer, and O'Shea this year, that Schiano brings some veteran stability that will lessen the burden on Daly and S. Belichick.

The Pats have 2 coaching spots on defense to fill (LBs and CBs coaches) and also the WR coach spot to fill.

What exactly does a defensive pass game coordinator do?

Probably more just that he isnt ready yet. Flores was next in line for quite some time, and he had been in the organization for seemingly forever.

Daly seemed to slide into that role as Flores moved up, but he hasn't been with the Pats for that long and he was 'second' for a single season

Bill has a long relationship with Schiano, who will probably be using his time with the pats as a springboard to a HC position, either pro or CFB. And it allows BB more time to develop the current coaching staff.

Flores didn't even think Boyer should be a DC, he gave the gig to Patrick Graham. I see this move as Boyer being pissy that Belichick didn't give him the job because he thought he was next in line. I mean for f**k sake it's a lateral move, that "defensive passing game coordinator" thing is such a fake title it's not even funny. So what happens when they are playing some team and getting shredded and Boyer doesn't like what Graham is calling ? Does he take the play calling duties from him? Does Graham have no say in how to run the pass defense?

Nah that title is just so it looks like he moved up when he moved on, he'll probably have input in the game preparations probably more than he had in NE but really Boyer moved on to the same position and if Belichick or Flores actually thought he was ready to be a DC he'd be the DC of the Pats or Dolphins right now

There is a pipeline, the losses matter but they are always grooming assistants. It just makes the Patriots a better place for young coaches to go to.

There is no question Flores was qualified for DC and HC. That is not the issue.

The issue is Daly was passed over- twice (Flores and Schiano)

Its just like the real world. If you feel you should be promoted but are not, you need to decide if you can live with it.

Either Daly stays or he becomes disenfranchised and leaves.

Daly is in his mid 40s. Its not like he was just a GA. He has experience.

Clearly BB felt there are better candidates for the role.

Its smart of BF to bring in as many guys that he knows. It's got to be tough to come in as head honcho working with a bunch of people you didn't pick. He now at least has 3 other guys watching his back and helping him get other guys in line. That place has to be a cluster f with all the changes happening in the last few years.

He wasn't passed over twice. Your claim that he was passed over in favor of Flores makes no sense when Flores clearly had seniority over Daly, both in terms of time in the league and time with the Patriots. It's questionable whether you can claim that Daly was "passed over" for Schiano since 1) Schiano hasn't been officially hired 2) Daly hasn't coached any other position than D-line during his tenure in the league.

You totally ignore the very plausible idea that Daly LIKES coaching the D-line. Much like Scarnecchia likes coaching the O-line. And Daly has had plenty of successes with the likes of Pat Williams, Chris Long, Kevin Williams, Jared Allen, Deitrich Wise, Trey Flowers, etc..

Where are you getting this idea that Daly felt he should have been promoted?

I'm assuming positional coaches and coordinators want to be promoted. I include Daly in that assumption.

Stop- its pretty much a forgone conclusion Schiano is going to be the DC next year.

I have no idea what Daly's career aspirations are. He could be DC material or not. Who knows. What I do know is there was an opportunity for career advancement and he didn't get it.

My definition of, "passed over" means there was a promotion was possible and someone else got it. Was Daly more qualified than Flo? I dunna know. Was Daly more suited for the role than Schiano? Who knows.
