Fact is, we don't know how good Richards is because he hasn't been on the field. That's not a negative... that's just inconclusive.

In the end, we just don't know. He's an entirely untested quantity.

He had 240 snaps his rookie season. There is some tape on him. I didn't watch the tape but do I need to if he played 16 his second season?

IDK. Different circumstances, perhaps.

IIRC, the Pats ran through a few veteran DBs in 2015, looking for a fit at the nickel and dime DB spots, presumably. It was Coleman and Richards who were retained for 2016, and, except for the addition of Rowe (bumping Coleman down the depth chart), the defensive backfield "top 8" seemed much more settled.

That said, with the Pats, there's always room for improvement - even on a championship squad. Jon Jones had the one "tryout" game last season, and Cy Jones had three or four.

The Pats have, effectively, swapped out Ryan for Gilmore among the top six DBs and retained Harmon, but the only competition for Richards and the Jones boys (so far) for the #7 & #8 DB spots are UDFAs.
