Alzheimer's is horrible.

My mother went through it, and it was very difficult to watch.

The most frustrating thing about it was that you could tell the cogent thoughts were still there in her head, but similarly could not get the words out. We all thought she had a stroke, but the hospital and doctors claimed no. In her case she went into the hospital (as an alert, intelligent, well-spoken person) for something very minor, and a few days later came out unable to converse.

Sadly, after watching her sister-in-law go through the same thing several years earlier, that happening to her was her biggest fear.
