Jimmy G open to an extension

Not to be negative, but what else would he have said?

The only way I'm coming back here is if that old ass Brady hangs them up.
"Hey Coach, do you believe in aliens?"

"Ya know I'm not here to get into whether there is or isn't aliens, I coach football I'll let the government worry about that."

"BREAKING: PATRIOTS COACH BILL BELICHICK BELIEVES IN ALIENS"

He'd be a complete idiot if he said anything different.

Felt like It would of been more Patriot like to dodge the question and say he's focused on mini camp and trying to improve and help the team

That's also a solid answer.

Jimmy's got a little swagger going.

I am sure if they give him top of the market QB money, Garoppolo is open to an extension.

Please let's not make this anything more than it is. It is a player saying the right thing to the media.

Here is Garoppolo's full comment. Seemed very non-commital:

“You know, I entertain any possibility,” Garoppolo told reporters at the team’s mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. “I don’t know, like I said, I’m not really thinking about too much right now. There’s just so much going on with OTAs and training camp is right around the corner. That’s where my focus is. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there, I guess.”

Jimmy Garoppolo doesn’t rule out signing an extension in New England

Uh Oh... The Brady haters aren't going to like this tweet.

Speculation at it's best Belichick isnt letting him walk out the door unless there are multiple first coming back

Psycho Tom ain't going anywhere for now. He can still play at an elite level. I personally think he's got 4-5 years left. He takes care of his body better than anyone I have ever seen. Father Time always wins, but brady can prolong it for a few years.

Look at Bernard Hopkins, still an elite boxer at 45 years old. Some people are rare specimens
Exactly. Look what great shape George Foreman kept himself in winning the heavyweight title at age 45.

This means nothing. What's he supposed to say? "Nope. No way I sign an extension here."

In fact, I bet he was coached up on what to say when asked that question. Just say you're open to anything and the media has no real story.

as a backup qb in this day in age you really gotta wonder if its worth giving up an easy backup position if a team is willing to pay you say 8+ mil a year, in order to make double that as a starter knowing what players now know about concussions and such.

i think if im Jimmy, if the pats offer me something like 8 mil a year to back up tom, with incentives in the event that i have to start, i take it. Make a fortune, and also not take the beating starters take.
I would lose all respect whatsoever I had for the guy if he was happy taking half pay to backup as opposed to actually being a starter somewhere.

Sounds like you would make a good Jay Cutler fan.

Saying "I'm open to anything" is dodging the question.

I am Italian. If he was using his hands while making the statement then put no stock in it. The only way you will know if JG is passionate about a statement is when he Wink wink Nod Nods. Then it is gospel.

I don't think Tom will last four to five years and here's why: his great pocket presence/elusiveness will start to fade. Along with throwing accuracy and decision making, that's key to his game. He has compensated for slow foot speed (not a scrambler) by being quick, cagey and deceptively elusive in the relatively small pocket area, which buys time for receiver route adjustments. It's a physical skill that will erode quicker than his throwing ability, leaving Tom vulnerable.

I'd be pretty disappointed in Jimmy if he felt that way... He's a competitor, if his mentality is anything less than working hard every day to try and earn a starting QB job in the NFL, I don't want him on my team
if he doesnt work hard bill wont keep him around.

this isnt about him not being a competitor so much as him recognizing that hes already on the best team in the league.
Also the fact that former players are quite literally killing themselves, but saving their brains in the process in order to provide scientific data that football might be ruining their brains.

imo Being the best backup in the league. Making the best backup money, AND avoiding playing for a ****ty team, when there is a chance that you can play for the best, is a pretty sweet deal.

I recently read "Belichick and Brady." It gives fascinating insight as to how Brady thinks, especially when he was first drafted into the league.

Nowhere in that book did it say Brady aspired to be "the best backup in the league."

It was a PR comment.. what is he suppose to say? "No I am no way even considering a new contract with my current team"

He said nothing suprising, it was a safe comment that had very few stipulations. He wasn't asked "Would you be interested in an extension if you were sitting on the bench for 2 or even 3 more seasons"? If he answered that question.. it would be a no win answer.
