Look for the Jets to groom new offensive assistant Brian Daboll as the heir apparent to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Daboll spent the past five seasons as wide receivers coach with the Patriots and is close friends with Jets coach Eric Mangini.

Schottenheimer, who interviewed for the Dolphins' head-coaching job in January but later withdrew from consideration, is expected to be a hot head-coaching candidate following the 2007 season, especially if the Jets' offense builds on its success from last season.

Smart move by the Jets to plan for when Schotty moves on, which he no doubt will if the Jets perform like they did last season. This way the transition will be easier. I just hope Dabol is up to the task when and if he takes over as OC.

It certainly makes sense especially since Mangini knows he almost got the nod in NE.

If Dabol's offense averages 33 ppg over the last 6 games of the season, I hope Jets fans are more forgiving than Pats fans.
