Jets waive Quinton Coples

Awesome!! I've been awaiting this moment for almost 4 Years!!

Coples was supposed to've been a SuperFreak Prospect, but I never trusted the guy and gave'm an OverRated Grade back in 2012. The Passion just never seemed to be there.

Jets burn another one!! Woot!!

"The Jets don't understand what the draft is all about." —Mel Kiper, who also doesn't understand what the draft is all about (at least w.r.t. the Patriots)

I'm sure I can Voogle (Volin+Google) it but very curious to see which team has the worst record in drafting RD1 ad RD2 picks in the last 10 years. I would think that things like starts, probowls, all-pros, games and i guess AV would be factored in.

It's unbelievable to look at the first-round pass outside pass rushers drafted in the AFC East and seeing the Pats embarrass these other teams. In recent memory:

Dion Jordan, Dolphins - 3rd overall, 3 sacks
Vernon Gholston, Jets - 6th overall, 0 sacks
Aaron Maybin, Bills - 11th overall, 6 sacks
Quinton Coples, Jets - 16th overall, 16.5 sacks
Chandler Jones, Patriots - 21st overall, 34 sacks

So despite having far worse draft position year after year, the Patriots have gotten more production from their stud pass rusher prospect than the other four busts combined, 34 sacks to 25.4 sacks, and Jones is one of the premier pass rushers in the league.

It's funny to think that with Jordan, Gholston, Maybin, and Coples, those fans were thumping their chests that they just made life horrible for Tom Brady, and all of those guys have amounted to a hill of beans.

Wow!

Could have drafted either Chandler Jones or Dont'a Hightower and Jets fans mocked us because they got the stud Quinton Coples. Both Jones and Hightower would address areas of weakness for the Jets.

I would consider picking him off of waivers and making him a a DT in a 4-3 which is probably his true position. The guy needs to play with his hand in the dirt. He is not an OLB.

The jests seem to be more proficient than others when it comes to blowing first rnd draft picks.

Can you imagine what BB would have done with the four first round draft picks that the Jets had in the 2000 NFL draft? Most likely would not have used all of them but they would most likely still be paying dividends today. 4 firsts and the 199th. That would have been great.

Such a great Belichick/Jets example right there. Jets draft the sexy name and take a victory lap with the pundits. Patriots take a guy who received no hype leading up to the draft who many projected to be a second round pick. I've seen this story before.

Tuna kicked ass with his first picks. Not sure BB would have done anything different.

parcells was a good drafter

Wow!

That's why the NFL* had to resort to outright confiscation of the Pats' 1st round pick.

Since the Pats keep picking better players than teams who draft ahead if them, if the Pats don't draft at all, it will be hard for other teams' picks to be worse than the Pats' picks.

Now if the NFL* can only do something about those pesky UDFAs.

Not only do the Pats find players among those the rest of the NFL* failed to recognize and draft, they play for less money which gives those cheating Pats yet another advantage.

I know he never lived up to his draft hype but a lot of that is on the Jets. They never used him right to be totally honest. I think in the right system he could do well.

If I had to guess this is an attempt to send a message by Bowles. Coples has not lived up to his selection no doubt but to cut him right now seems overboard.

Interested in seeing if BB puts in a claim. Even if he doesn't get that far we will still know if there was interested in there. I just can't see BB passing up a guy that would cost about a $500k cap hit the rest of the season and could increase your DL depth even more unless he just doesn't rate him at all.
