A bit of googling shows that every coach hired by NYJ going back to Parcells was an assistant or coordinator. Even Sexy Rexy and Herm The Germ were only coordinators when hired. Parcells was the last person with NFL head coaching experience they hired, and "Parcells' record as the team's head coach was 29-19-0, making him the most successful head coach in New York Jets history". Guess they didn't want more of that?
To me it feels the Jete have been getting reruns of the Mayo experience. Not sure why this is. Maybe no desirable ex-HC wants to work for Woody. We know BB didn't. Or maybe they understand the depth of the cultural suckage and don't want to risk their career.
Pretty much none of those ex-NYJ coaches have gone on to greatness. Bowles was Arians' assistant during the Brady Super Bowl and after Arians moved on he been pretty mediocre, IMO.
