Jets 5 free time outs slowed down No Huddle offense

Obviously the Patriots can't complain because McGinest did it BUT I would not at all be opposed to a player sitting out three plays after stoppage for an injury--except in the final minute when that injury costs a timeout. if the team has no timeouts left, the player has to sit out for 3 plays.

the worst was bart scott on our last drive.
he was smiling on the sideline.
our momentum was in our favor.
oh well.
it is what it is.
and we were what we were....like alot of dropped passes (crumpler, branch etc)

I didn't like that they did it every single time NE tried to put some pace into the game. Yes, NE has done this in the past, but I don't remember Patriots players going down every single time Manning ran the no huddle during their previous playoff matchups. If they had, the rules would have been changed, as the Colts were the darlings of the NFL at that time. To be really honest though it was the sideline shot of Bart Scott that actually bothered me. He literally had this huge tomcat/dumbo smile on his face while standing on the sideline, after having just fallen to the ground in supposedly extreme pain.

If I remember correctly, the officials can charge you with a timeout, if they believe you're faking it, well it was pretty blatant last night, yet the officials didn't take away their timeouts. Hopefully the Patriots make a better showing next time around, and don't allow a tactic such as this to be a deciding factor. NE's botching their early momentum was the real deciding factor in this game though. You simply can't move the ball down the field like that on multiple drives, and come away with only three points.

I was at the game and this tactic DID have an effect on the Pats momentum. We could also watch the bench and noticed that nobody was actually hurt. Yes the Pats have done this once that I can remember. It was never a KEY part of their game plan.

So yes the Jets won. They played better. Yet they still had to resort to this cheap tactic over and over and over again during the game.

Good luck against the Steelers your gonna need it.

Bart Scott....

So does anybody else think he faked that injury to slow down the Pat's no huddle offense?

It seemed that once we started getting some steam and driving the ball downfield, a Jets player would magically become injured. maybe I'm over-analyzing but anybody else feel the same way?

Re: Bart Scott....

Probably. But this is a tactic we've been accused of using since BB took over. Check out the Indy goal line stand game in 2003.

Re: Bart Scott....

It seemed like a Jet had an injury once we started going. But whatever. As stated above, we did use it against Indy.

Of course he did, but unfortunately from the officials pov it (as well as the other instances of Jets players who succumbed to phantom injuries) was not egregious enough to intervene and put a stop to the shenanigans.

It happened 5 times with different players over the course of the game.

So, NO

Re: Bart Scott....

Almost every team fakes injuries.

This. It's stupid when people act like the Patriots are the only team that tries to get film of their opponents signals, and it's stupid to act like the Jets are the only team that fakes injuries.

Re: Bart Scott....

we already have a lengthy thread about this.....merge. I believe the title is something like "five free timeouts". I only clicked on this thread because the title was simply "Bart Scott....", which is kind of vague, and could have been about some BS he spewed forth, or anything really. In any case, I gave my opinion in that thread a day or two after the game.

pats fans are angry because NE didn't think to master this ploy first

it's simple as that

people are still in a phase of the grieving process, where they're trying to explain why it happened rather than just accepting it and move on

all nfl fans do it lol, it's just the first stage

anyway, if the pats would have done it, it would be labeled "genius" and "hey it's within the rules" but because another HC thought to master it, and out headgamed the genius, then there's going to be whining about it

If the pats had done it and won, It would be all over the media . "Cheaters", "Underhanded", etc... LaDumbian Crylinson would be sceaming "Unclassy", which BTW, I think he did anyway. Just sayin. GO PITT!

1st one.... okay, it happens. Took away our momentum and slowed down the offense. Had to settle for a FG.

2nd one.... this is starting to seem a bit fishy

3rd one..... this is getting out of hand.

4th one..... fans start booing the "injured" player. This is BS

5th one..... ridiculous.

Every time the Jets player took one play off and then ran right back on the field.

The blueprint on stopping a fast-paced offense has been written. Want a free time out? Need time to reset and get your players in position? Not sure what play to call and need a few more seconds to figure it out? Fake an injury, get a free time out.

The NFL seriously needs to look at this exploit and make some changes to the rules.

Cheesh! You sound like Polian complaining about Rodney!

At the risk of sounding trite, "gamesmanship" is part of the "game." It has been since the first time one caveman challenged another caveman to a race around the rock at the end of the field and shouted "Your mother wears Yak pelts" (or some caveman insult) at a critical moment in the race.

For years, we used to chuckle over how Bill Belichick "got into Peyton's head" the week before a big game. Now Rex Ryan spends a whole week psyching out the Pats and then has his players feign injuries to slow down his opponents during the game. It only works because the other guy lets it work.
