Do you guys think it would at all be possible to trade away Jerod Mayo and his monster contract and cap hits? Even for a 5th or 6th. Like they did with Mankins. Not sure if any team would trade for him. Barring that, do you guys think Mayo would be willing to re-work the contract?

No, for many reasons. BB supposedly loves him. He's coming off 2 major injuries. His contract is basically a one year deal with the way it's structured and will be reworked or terminated after the season. Id be shocked if he's moved.

1) Mayo's 2015 salary is $1.5M. Lots of teams would want to trade for him. Belichick would not be interested.

2) There is no real commitment for 2016, because of the large roster bonus due before the season starts, and his large salary. As was the case this year, the team and Mayo will negotiate and come to an agreement before the season, or not.

3) Our up the middle run defense is much, much, much better with Mayo playing.

Hes hear for the year on this deal. I'm sure the current lay structure is unnaceptable nto the team and will be addressed in the offseason.

Considering our lack of draft capital Mayo is one of the only real trade chips we have IF Belichick feels that he needs to make a a mid season addition.

Wow that was a quick hook.

No way do I want to trade Mayo, I think he is a top linebacker in our system. Fully expect him to get his snaps as the season goes on.

I think they are going to go easy with him for the first games, he played just a few snaps but had to handle a lot on a few plays, that knee is 100%.

The reality though, is that Hightower is a monster, he is the future and needs to be locked ASAP

Hightower has exceeded all of my wildest expectations (and I liked the pick). Collins can emerge and is on a track to be top 5 in the league.

But to dump Mayo - foolish at his current $. He'll contribute: let's be patient.

Jerod Mayo is a coach in all but job title.

Add in him being an excellent LB, his contract is good value.

You can never have enough quality linebackers who understand how to play in this system.. Mayo is the whole package; very good, intelligent football player who exhibits great leadership off and on the field. For several years he was the leading tackler on this team...

If he was traded we would no longer be able to listen to "Miss Mayo"!!!!!

In most NFL trades it seems as though you wind up with a player of "lesser value"???

Trading away a player in the same season voted captain?

Mankins was a team captain when he was traded wasn't he? Not sure how much of a factor this would be.

NO ONE, I repeat NO ONE will pay Mayo his 2016 contracted bonuses and salary. The only value a trade would be for someone to pick up inexpensive 2015 help. The patriots would gain very little in cap money. Actually, it would cost the patriots 2015 cap room.

If Mayo want to make an expensive mid-season trade, losing cap space by trading Mayo makes no sense. Brady's contract could be tweaked yet again to provide some 2015 cap money, beyond the $3.8M we already have.

Let's worry about this season, not next year's draft. Brady has about 4 years left and they should maximize each one of them.
