I heard reports that he outperformed both Newton and Hoyer the first couple days or so.
The early reports were all over the place and mostly depended on who you were reading at the time. It seemed like nobody was standing out in any way, then Stidham got hurt and Cam took over commandingly.

I never ever heard he was ever leading the competition. Never ever once actual camp started
Of course you didn't hear what you don't want to hear. I really hate having to dredge up stuff for someone who is never going to listen but here's one for you:

@FitzyGFY's sources tell him: "Patriots are taking it slow with Cam Newton although the shoulder looks good. Jarrett Stidham is dropping dimes, making all the right reads, throwing darts. Jarrett Stidham is the best looking player at Patriots camp"

There are many others saying similar things in the first week, i.e. Stidham looked good when camp started. Then something went wrong, he started throwing INTs and was taken to the hospital to have his hip looked at. The guy obviously got injured.

I don't think he was going to beat out a healthy Cam, but I don't think many QB's could beat out a healthy Cam Newton either, including your 43 year old god in Tampa.

Agree, but do we have to add "a healthy Cam on a vet minimum contract?" Next year if Cam wants $30M to $35M a year, will BB go with Stidham or another? A healthy Cam on a veteran minimum contract is a one year albatross.

2nd year man Tom Brady was Bledsoes backup. Brady was dressed the day Bledsoe was injured vs the Jets.

2nd year Stidham was in street clothes chowing down on hot wings last Sunday.
Jeez you Brady acolytes have to pour venom on everyone who even indirectly threatens your Brady is Eternal God narrative: Stidham and Garoppolo because BB may have thought them better options than an aging Brady, N'Keal Harry and the receivers because Brady's uninspiring 2019 has to be someone else's fault, and of course Belichick.

Maybe you're right that 43 year old Brady will still light up the heavens Tampa, and evil Bill Belichick will sh*t the bed this year. But the venomous rooting against the home team in the home team's forum is really really tiresome. All it's doing is making many of us root against 43 year old Brady to prove you wrong, and that's sad.

There is no shame in a 2nd year QB being beaten out by a healthy former MVP. It is not as if he was cut and sent to the PS. He is on the 53. Those who are down on him just need to be realistic. He will be in camp in the same fight next year. If he shows no progress, he is gone.

If Cam stays healthy I would think he's going to get a gigantic contract from someone next year, especially looking at the money thrown at 43 year old Brady and aging Phillip Rivers. Hopefully the Pats can sign him to a multi-year extension this year while there is still uncertainty.

There are huge unknowns remaining about Stidham. He looked great in last year's preseason and I believe the Pats still like him based on what he showed in practice last year. But I agree with Kontra that his college performance is not inspiring. I watched all his 2018 and 2017 Auburn games and wasn't impressed. With all the unknowns, I don't think we can get much for him in a trade, even though his ceiling may be high.

You're repeatedly way off base. Your SOURCE is Fitzy GFYourself ??? Wow, talk about digging a deeper hole for yourself. I followed training camp. Stidham threw 7 INTs in his first 47 throws. That was on day1 or day 2. The only advantage for Stidham is possibly the first couple hours when Newton hadn't met all the players in person yet on Day1.

Agreed, but if we do not sign Cam mid-season to a team friendly deal, do we let Cam walk. It is a HUGE decision - get your popcorn ready.

And then we had everyone else like Howe, Lazar, Perry & co. who independent of each other said that none of the QBs was consistently better than the other in the first week. There were days were one did more with his reps than the others but without any consistency.

Newton won the competition because he is hands down much more talented and a better QB than Stidham and Hoyer.

IMO, Stidham is a strong candidate for the 2021 backup QB position. We will need a backup, unless we think Hoyer will be here yet another year.

And sure, as this year, Stidham will have an opportunity to compete with whichever veteran Belichick chooses (my hope is with Cam).

Brady lost last Sunday. Thats proof enough to the ingrates that Brady is all washed up. There is nowhere to go but down for Brady from this point, but Stidham and Jimmy G are looking at stardom.

Brady should have either drafted or brought in a TE to replace some of the production lost from Gronk leaving last season. GM Brady should not have drafted Harry. In fact, thanks alot Brady, Harrys fumble could have cost the Pats the game vs the Phins last Sunday. Brady wanted the 'Quitter" Gordon back. Brady signed up AB for 9 million.

Some GM that Brady turned out to be.

Brady is done. You can see it. The experts here on Patsfans know its over.

Tampa should have kept Crablegs.

Can you read or do you just post? Or do you just have to disrespect everyone who disagrees with you? I said " Maybe you're right that 43 year old Brady will still light up the heavens in Tampa". It's quite possible. I actually expected Brady to come out of the gate strong and fade as the wear and tear caught up with him. Brady may be done, or he might eek out this year and next. But actuarially his time is short.

Why do all the Brady acolytes have to resort to ad hominem attacks? I was not predisposed to care about how Brady does at Tampa. As a Patriot fan, I hope Belichick was more responsible for the dynasty success than Brady was simply because BB is still with the team. My hoping it's true doesn't make it so. We'll see. But if Brady does poorly, it enhances the Pats chances because it supports Belichick's judgement. So it's sadly easy to root against Brady in Tampa while rooting for BB and Cam in NE.

I agree with that.

I was just responding to the remark "I never ever heard he was ever leading the competition. Never ever once actual camp started". Demonstrably, some thought Stidham started strong. Then something went wrong and he started uncharacteristically* throwing INTs and ended up having his hip checked in the hospital. He got injured, but I don't think he had a chance against a healthy Cam. I don't think 43 year old Brady would beat out a healthy Cam in a fair competition either. Cam is amazing.

*Stidham's poor play in 2018 was not about throwing INTs -- 18 TDs vs 5 INTs -- it was about panic under pressure, poor pocket awareness, and ball security problems (fumbling and strip sacks). He was always pretty accurate and generally didn't force throws, and he threw an excellent deep ball.

Brady's team plays the Chiefs, Broncos, Raiders and Chargers. All 4 teams are relevant to the Pats when it comes to playoffs and seeding- so I hope he at least does amazing against all of them.

I'm just glad the chest thumping how Belichick is trash and keeping Brady would have singlehandedly made this team a Super Bowl team has been silenced.

Who cares what people you’ve never met on a fan forum think. If you’re gonna “root against a 43 year old Brady” because of some guy on a forum you don’t know then I feel sorry for you.

I’m a long time Pats fan and Brady is my favourite player ever. I’ll always cheer Pats and will also cheer for Brady to do well. It doesn’t have to be one or the other or Bill vs. Tom.

Youre a piece of work.

Wanting Brady to do well brings on your butthurt. Not me because Im not an ingrate and appreciate every thing that Brady has done for NE. I was more than ecstatic when Ray Bourque finally won a Stanley Cup in Colorado.

Ragging on about Bradys age of 43 as if it news and his impending injury that will sidetrack his career is sad and pathetic. Like crying disrespect.

Question is, as strong as Cam’s man-crush on Belichick seems to be from his euphoric gushing in every interview, how much of a premium will other teams need to offer to woo him away from New England? Especially if he and the team continue to have the level of success with which they started the season? If that continues he may decide he’s already made bank, now it’s time to make folks forget Brady. He’s already on record about his feelings towards the teams that passed on him before BB signed him, it may be more costly than they can manage to soothe his hurt feelings especially when you know Belichick will be masterfully stoking them. It’s going to be fun watching how this unfolds.
