Jackie MacMillan on Minitron

That article plants in my head, and hopefully out playoff foes, the possibility of some well timed wildcat plays with Julian controlling the action...

A wrinkle that could be a real possibility...

I enjoy McMullan's articles...

In before the taking-the-ball-out-of-Brady's-hands posts

I love her articles, they are always so enjoyable and informative. Julian seems a bit nuts, in a good way.

Competition fuels Julian Edelman's fire - ESPN Boston

As I've said before, if you had an entire football team with Edelman's attitude and work ethic, they would make the 59–0 game against the Titans in 2009 look like a squeaker.

That was a great read. Thanks for posting.

Fabulous article, thank you! Really gives you a better feel for where this guy came from and why he's able to succeed. I really hope we re-sign him, because based on this I have to feel his best years at WR are still ahead of him.

Love reading Jackie McMullan. She is a wonderfuul writer. Favorite part of that article is the very end:

Practice has been edgy this week in preparation for the Colts. There's a chance a punch or two has been thrown, though Arrington would only smile knowingly when asked for confirmation.

"That's Edelman,'' Arrington said. "Man, I love that guy.''

I feel like the Patriots are raring to go and can't wait to step on the field Saturday.

Minitron? Is that nickname really sticking?

Anyway, it is crazy to see how we've got full circle on Edelman.

Just think of all the forum roster discussions over the years of, do we really keep two WR's that are JUST special teams players (Edelman and Slater). Or remember when in 2012 we had an influx of WR talent (Welker, Lloyd, Gaffney, Branch, A.Gonzalez, D.Stallworth) at training camp and many contemplated whether he would be moved to full time db? Now he is a 1,000 yard/100 catch receiver far surpassing his "special teamer" tag.

It's nice to see a guy with a Troy Brown-like "do whatever is asked" attitude find success.

If there is one knock against him, this is the first time in four years that he has not returned a punt for a TD. I'll give him a pass on that one, though.

Frank Edelman sounded borderline abusive (firing fastballs at his son's head) and obsessed, but it worked. Look at where his son is today. I agree, this was a great and fun read.

...aren't I smart...please NE hire me as a talent evaluator!!

I just knew back then that his drive was second to none, I mean you could see it. I really hope he cashes in. The kid works hard and that hard work has gained him the trust of one of the greatest QB's of all time.

He is not a typical wideout but his work ethic and passion simply can not be denied.

I hope he stays healthy and stays on this team for a while. If we manage, before TFB retires, to get a someone to take the top off these defenses his numbers would go through the roof IMHO..

Hope he has a great game Saturday....

Yup, and I think Frank realized it as well. It's pretty fortunate for him that Julian had the right attitude and spirit for it to turn into something positive for him.

That's the first thing I though: JE is a product of constant, obsessive parental abuse by an insane father and a mother who would set him the backyard of taverns at the age 3 while she put one on.

Of all the ingredients to make an elite NFL player (genes, talent, size, practice, discipline) I'm sure obsessive parents are key the mix as well. I would bet Brady's and Manning's parents were equally intolerable.

I don't think what I've heard of Brady's dad puts him in the "intolerable" category; I think that was more Brady pushing himself.

That was Frank playing in the back of taverns.

Just to set the record straight, it was Edelman's father who was left behind taverns at a young age, not Edelman.

But you don't need obsessive parents—perhaps this isn't the best example, but by all accounts, Prisoner's father was a truly positive influence in his life, and it wasn't until after his death that things started spiraling out of control.

I'm also in the camp that says this sounds a LOT like Brady, except for the physical differences that control which positions they can each play.

Oddly, they even grew up in nearby towns. I think Edelman's is actually the richer town, but even so it sounds as if Brady had more money growing up.

All you need to know about Edelman happened on Jan 1st 2012 against the Bills. It was the one game I got to see in person that year.

The Bills came out and scored TD's on their first 3 drives, absolutely shredding the Pats D.

Fletcher was playing the middle LB for the most part. Pats CB's playing 10 yards off the line.

Drive #4, Pats down 21-7. Edelman comes into play slot CB (along with Spikes coming in at LB). Edelman lines up right in the slot receiver's grill and starts muscling him at the LOS and Spikes starts blowing people up in the middle. Anderson gets a sack, putting Bills in 3rd and long and Edelman makes the tackle on 3rd down. Pats finally get off the field and proceed to rip off 42 straight in what eventually became a laugher.

Looking at their stats you'd think Edleman and Spikes didn't do much but they completely changed the tenor of that game with their energy.

It also helped that Stevie J got benched for being a ********.

Larry Bird convinced Magic Johnson to use Jackie MacMillan as the writer of their book because Larry said she was the best. I had to laugh at Edelman's jab at the 6' 6" qb, it sounded a lot like "who' coming in second".

I agree with most of that but it does not apply to Tom Brady Sr.
