Is this it for Mac?

selfishly i want him to start now because that almost guarantees a top 3 pick. It feels kinda bad watching him on the sidelines though after embarrassing himself and its bordering on cruelty to keep trotting him out.

Zappe wasn’t much better but We win that game if zappe was named starter 2 weeks ago and got all the reps. At this point wins are counter productive
Zappe can't complete a pass down field and seems to be every bit of turnover risk as Mac.

By default I think Zappe should get a start. But I'm not sure either has a win left in them.

Maybe Malik and an almost all run game plan could squeak one out.

If we go back to Mac, it’ll be because somehow he’s the best of 2 sh!tty choices. Mac’s not gonna get benched for a few weeks just so he can heal mentally and then get brought back as the starter. What would be the point of that? We’re way past that point.

If we’re gonna say Mac’s broken, he’s been broken since way before the Cowboys game…since some point last year honestly. But IMHO, I think it’s moreso that Mac is just a bad QB. The coaching staff and OL haven’t done him any favors, but really I think he just isn’t very good. He makes too many boneheaded decisions with the ball…whether under pressure or all alone.

He was broken for part of last year. He since early last year, he has been afraid of making mistakes that he has willed himself into mistakes.

But he was actually good for a lot of the year down the stretch last year. PFF (I know is not always the best in evaluation) has him among the top QBs down the stretch in their Big Time Throws category which are high level of difficulty throws usually down the field a bit into tight windows.

And I am not advocating bringing him back. I am saying IF they bring him back, they should give him a rest and try to let him work through whatever he is going through. Personally, I think he needs a fresh start somewhere else if he is ever going to get a chance to redeem himself.

Nope. He'll start the Chargers game until he's pulled.

Mac might look good in pewter and red. I can’t see Mayfield sticking around there another year. Todd Bowles tho….

Idk. Realistically he shouldn't, but Zappe is going to get himself benched too and it's pretty obvious they overall think Mac is better. Which is the problem.

Whenever Zappe and Mac have a one to one comparison, Zappe will get off one really safe drive and then stink it up the rest of the game. So I don't trust that even if they said "Zappe is the definitive starter" tomorrow, that he won't just lose the job back to Mac.
Mac is probably better if he wasn’t broken and hasn’t regressed this badly. I agree with the fact they should never and shouldn’t keep starting and pulling him over and over. It’s just adding unnecessary pressure and confusion. Just start the guy or pull the guy. This isn’t working.

Just not a serious team.

Bad lack of maturity and leadership skills
Bad decisionmaking
Bad throwing mechanics
Bad arm strength
Bad movement in the pocket
Bad ball security when running
Bad reputation for dirty moves and stupid remarks towards his opponents

What is it about him that would be appealing as a backup in this league?

What about going with no QB?

Bring back the 4 horsemen. Zeke, Rham, Carter and Montgomery

Get Mac waddle and Smith at wr along with Alabamas offensive line and he'll be fine... Who wouldn't?

I bet we'll see more of this 50/50 crap. Can't believe it's degraded this badly. Heck can newton was better.

I feel like we're at least the second pick with the remaining opponents with maybe the jets game ruining it. I don't like tanking plus we are so removed from the Brady years. The defense has to be given credit with their continued fight despite injuries. They have kept the team in games despite a completely awful offense. The main issue is the quarterback play. Sure the oline has been rough and the wrs are weak. QB play has literally given the opponent opportunities

I do not totally agree with being pulled ...
I think they knew it would be a half for each.
At this point why not ... let the competition be at game speed.

Zappe did lead a td drive and should have had at least 3 at the end. Still sucks but Way more than mac could do.

I think wed see less turnovers from zappe when he’d actually get a chance to not enter a game with a deficit and maybe get to play with a lead. Hes a game manager/front runner as we saw last year so these are the kinda games he could win. We have owned Herbert and pitts offense barely scores on its own so i wouldn’t be suprised if zappe could win those. Mac is easily the best choice in the tankathon since those defenses can probably force him into several turnovers.

He threw for 54 yards and a pick that was just as bad as Mac's.

Still made a few plays to help complete the drive. Both are trash but its pretty clear which half went better for us offensively

I ain't defending Mac.
I just don't think Zappe is any good.
His TD drive was a bunch of screens and run plays. I think just one play a 3 yard out to a wide open receiver went beyond the los.

I don’t think zappe’s any good either, in fact he sucks. But he still seems better than mac at this point. Mac is a whole new level of bad, needs some time away or a mental reset before hes going to recover.

I’d be hard pressed to list anything Mac does well or that makes him deserving of anything more than a training camp invite

It was nice that Belichick finally gave Zappe a real chance. Wasn’t placed in a blowout or a 2 minute drill. Clean half and he was just mediocre. So he’s out.

Regarding Mac, anyone know where I can watch a replay of the game? I want to see his face again when he was about to get hit. He looked absolutely terrified.

Is it possible that injury last season mentally broke him? He was carried into the locker room like his leg was just ripped off. Is it possible he’s never had any major injuries before and he’s now just scared?

When I played hockey, I went into the boards and broke my arm - bad. Gross bad. Needed surgery. After that, I always let up when heading into the boards. I couldn’t help it, but the trauma was there.

And im not trying to mock his injury. Twisted/sprained ankles hurt. But damn, I’ve seen people rip ligaments are show barely any reaction. I thought his season was over the way he was carried in last year. But I’m now wondering if it was actually his career being over.
