Is the GOAT playing like one?

That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw that last night.

I expect to see a thread like this after every loss or poor game. "Is Tom done?"

"Is Brady declining?", etc.

Funny how you can fall off the cliff from one week to the next. They guy had one poor game and now folks are acting like he's Mark Sanchez.

And the funny thing about that is that one of those games was from 2007...was Brady "declining" then, too?

He played in some of the heaviest rain I've ever seen in a football game yesterday. He has very few options on offense to throw to, not to mention Ridley and Vereen are out.

Do I think Brady isn't quite as good as he was a few years ago? Definitely.

Do I think he's still a top 5 QB in the league? I don't even think it's a reasonable question.

All year he has been off a little bit.

He's been off.

Off the top of my head from the Cincy game, two key throws being off were costly.

He had one critical incompletion to Hooman over the middle that bounced off his arm because it was a little bit behind him and Hooman had to contort his body a little to try to turn back and catch it. Yes Hooman could have caught it, but a better throw makes it an easier catch. The play right after that, Blount fumbled. Not saying the Hooman incompletion directly caused the fumble, but if that's a better throw to Hooman, we get the first down, and maybe we call something different on the next play and Blount never fumbles (butterfly effect).

And the completion to Amendola near the goal line was behind him, forcing him to catch it while reaching back and falling to the ground. If the throw was accurate, Amendola catches it in stride and walks into the endzone. Instead we get stymied at the goal line and are eventually forced to settle for 3.

The rookies will get most of the blame because Brady never makes any mistakes. Ever! His poop needs to be bronzed! No wait, it comes out bronzed!

That's a common misconception they actually package it and sell it

This revenue stream was what allowed him to sign for so much under market value.

I agree. I don't think he's quite as good as he once was, but that doesn't mean he's not still one of the best QBs in the league. He's working with absolutely nothing.

Manning's been getting a ton of praise for his accuracy this season, and it's true that he's been unbelievably accurate. I think something like 1/4 of his incomplete passes this season are from drops, which brings his inaccurate throws down to a crazy low level. The drops help that, but the athletic catches that Demaryius Thomas and Welker have made don't affect it.

My point is that Brady may be a little off, but he's not getting any help whatsoever. A lot of balls that don't technically count as drops this season for him have been "should-be" catches.

At the end of the day, all that matters is if the QB is good enough to win a super bowl. I don't think there's any question TB is more than capable of that still.

Ala Flacco. Agreed.

I'm actually surprised that the Pats are 4-1. So, there is that.

Yayyy let's have a blaming party!

I know who will bring the "blame pie" ... and the hot dogs

Does his play so far warrant no blame? If not, then this thread is a sham.

It isn't only Brady. The whole team should have a little bit of the blame. But, people think that TFB's s hit doesn't stink.

He is human.

I don't waste time looking for people to blame. I'm looking for how we could improve.

I don't think Mallet's ready, so it seems we're stuck with Brady.

Tough year on the legacy. His measuring stick Peyton Manning is having a season for the ages while TB is the 30th most accurate QB in the league

I'm not sure if this was brought up in the thread already but I'll give it a go:

Besides the massive turnover that resembles 06, this defensive schedule resembles 2009. This is definitely hurting Brady's stats IMO.

The Bills defense is all average/below average stats.
The Jets have the 2nd defense in the league in yardage. Fat Rex has built another top defense and the Jets front 7 is scary.
The Bucs D is 8th in ppg and 13th in yardage, despite all of Freeman's turnovers.
The Falcons D is below average and we racked up yards/points.
The Bengals D is 7th in ppg and 8th in yardage.

We've faced three top 10 defenses, an average defense, and a below average defense. Couple this with no Gronk/no Amendola and rookie WRs starting, it's a recipe for a big decline in stats.

We need a terrible defense to warm up this offense, like the giants, eagles, or cowboys Ds. Oh wait, only Peyton gets those.....

Get back to me after Manning chokes in the playoffs again.

borges, agree completely-great post, as usual. By season's end Manning will have 8 more play-off wins, 2 more SB victories, and 6 fewer play-off losses and play-off one and done's. That will even the discussion about the GOAT.

WOW, I knew his stats were bad, but didn't realize they were that bad. Brady simply looks uncomfortable out there. We can talk about new, non-dependable weapons all we want, but Brady looks like Blaine Gabbert out there with some of this throws. Does anyone really think Gronk is going to come back and magically fix all of this? We finally have a solid defense and now the offense is mediocre.

Pressure defense, bad protection, WR who cant get open when in press coverage or drop the ball or are too late to get open, no TE dump off , no change of speed pass catching RB . Lot of things missing for him to perform. People keep comparing with the broncos - watch how open his WRs are and how quickly they are open vs the protection manning receives.

As BB says : "No quarterback I'd rather have than Tom Brady."

Brady has been off this season, but the guy was stripped from over 80% of his completions from last year aka Welker, Hernandez, Lloyd, Woodhead, and currently Gronk not playing. They were replaced with rookies, Edelman, and Amedola. The lack of running game has hurt and so has the inconsistent O-Line. Luckily the team is 4-1 and can improve with time good thing the season and playoffs is a marathon and not a sprint

the average nfl QB isnt 4-1 right now

The average NFL QB doesn't have the #2 scoring defense in the league either. I love Brady and as much of a rumpswab for the guy as anyone here, but facts are facts. Brady hasn't played particularly well.

I'd think that even the 2007 team would have struggled in a monsoon, if you had taken away their top two running backs by injury, their top receiving threat, their top D-lineman, gotten crappy O-line play, and lost a fumble.

He can only carry so much weight.

The game wasn't a monsoon until the last couple of minutes. What about the other 58?

OK, TFB has not been as sharp this year as he has been in other years. We can make excuses and some of them are valid but my eyes tell me he's been a little off this year. Doesn't mean that it will continue, and I don't know the reason.

But we are at 4-1 and should win 3 out of the next 4 and that is all that matters.

Now, I saw a post that said Peyton was Tom's measuring stick Since when? I call big pile of BS for that one.

Tom is Peyton's measuring stick. # Super Bowls championships, 5 AFC Championships vs 1 Super Bowl Championship and 2 AFC titles. Peyton is still chasing tom and will until he retires.

Brady will always look bad vs a team that can rush the QB up the middle but even with that said this team would be 0-5 if not for Brady,

there are 7 rookies playing big rolls for the pats right now and 3 of them went undrafted. on offense after Gronk every one is average to mid level talent with a over rated OL that Brady makes look better when he can get the ball out of he's hand, Brady is haveing the same type of season that got him 3 rings he's pace for 4000 yards 28 TD's and 12 INT's the only thing that is off is he's comp pct and a lot of that is from drops
