Is Jabar Gaffney our 3rd best receiver now with Stallworth dropping to #4?

Watson dropped a TD pass the other week, and he's dropped a couple of passes overall lately, but he hasn't at all had shaky hands throughout this season, and he hasn't been a fumble waiting to happen This Season, either. through about half the season Watson was among the Patriots most reliable receivers, and the only thing that slowed him down for a while was a high ankle sprain. Last year ben dropped more passes, and you could at times worry he was going to fumble, but earlier this season we had threads on this board talking about how Ben had improved in both of those areas.

Last year I was saying the Patriots should give Chad Jackson a shot at returns, and when they finally used him at returner (either the Jags or Titans last year) he looked good. This year I've again been saying NE should think about using Chad as a returner, so I was glad to see him get the chance against the Steelers, and it was nice to see him get in at least one nice return.

So you're telling me that you're more comfortable with Watson out there in place of a VERY reliable option like Jabar Gaffney, who just seems to make clutch catch after clutch catch. I'll take Gaffney any day.

When Watson lost that TD catch in Baltimore, that was the weakest thing I've ever seen, Gaffney catches that same pass 10 times out of 10 times. Granted Watson is playing better this year than last year, I mean last year, the drops and fumbles from him were brutal to watch. But even with that, I take Gaffney hands down.

While I think Stallworth is more talented, I believe Gaffney fits this offense better and I wouldn't be surprised to see the pats pass on Stallworths big bonus and re-sign Gaffy for less.

Just my 2 cents..

To answer the question, yes Gaffney is being more productive than Stallworth and is getting more snaps as a result:

Offensive participation:

WR Jabar Gaffney -- 42 of 57
WR Donte' Stallworth -- 32 of 57

Wow, I did not realize Jab was getting more snaps. Methinks I must re-evaluation my evaluation of him.

Let's all forget that Gaffney had a boneheaded drop against the Ravens, and only played something like 12 snaps. Let's cut Stallworth and Watson and play Gaffney every snap instead. Because of one game.

Please consider this as moss is doubled so is stallworth . if not for him a defence can roll the safety closer to line for wes / run support.

gaffney 29 catches for 359 yards avg 12.9
stallworth 41 640 yrds 15.4

i know number looks close but teams will stop playing cover 2 and can play 1 deep and let the FS closer to line to cover wes/watson with LB or run support.

longest play for this year is still the 69 yrd that he took a 8 yrd hitch against the dallas. a reason their is always a safety in coverage on his side.

Stallworth dropped a sure touchdown catch and run against the Bills

I don't think it has anything to do with Stallworth. I think the coaches recognized that Gaffney has been making plays all season even though he's had three excellent WR's ahead of him.

Agreed!! Gaffney's been very clutch and is guaranteeing himself a spot on this team for years to come with his ability to get open and catch the ball in clutch situations, i.e last minute endzone catch against the Ravens etc. Stallworth is good but will be gone next year. Hopefully Chad Jackson will be ready to finally live up.

varies week to week..part of gameplan. they bring 2 different skillsets..we needed/wanted Gaffney's

You do realize that Watson plays TE, right???

That being said, Watson missed a tough catch in Baltimore in terrible passing conditions. Moss also had a tough night with balls thrown to him.

Since Gaffney and Watson play different positions, they mean different things to the team. To say they are interchangeable is naive and shows a lack of understanding about the game.

When Watson went out of the Pittsburgh game with an apparent injury, I was concerned as the TE position is thin, and he is one player who can block and catch. Watson's presence is huge for the offense.
