Don't get mad,Its a simple question.

The defense creating several turnovers or pix sixes is not included in whether the team scores more than 21 - Its solely based on the offense so no help from the defense when deciding your answer.

Is the OFFENSE under Cassel capable of putting more than 21 on the board?

I think in a few more games, McDaniels and Belichick will open up the offense a bit more. I think they are doing somewhat what the Colts did with Manning his rookie season, keeping him on short leash and not let him air out the ball until he is more comfortable with the offense. No, I don't think Cassel is anywhere near as good as Manning, but it is the same strategy.

So yes, I think they are capable of it.

Once they open it up a bit more, and that is tied in with the offensive line improving, the answer is yes.

That answer was right up my alley.

In order for this team to score more than 21 without the defense helping out are 2 specific areas which need focusing...

Randy Moss and Welker may want to just forgo the long routes and catch 5 or 10 yard outs and do something after the catch and the OL needs to open up gaping holes and protect Cassel as well - Easier said than done but if these guys play with more intensity its possible.

The offense to score more than 21 is not based solely on the performance of Cassel but those around him who need to make better adjustments post-Brady and deal with the extremely raw QB they have in charge now.

IMO There will be VERY few long bombs in games this year if Cassel is to remain the #1 QB and a controlled boring offense is probably the only way this team makes the playoffs.

I said yes, but Hobbs should probably spot them field goal range seven times per game.

So, you hated 2001?

I don't care who you are, EVERYONE said that before week 2. People can come in and deny it. But in denying it, they are freely admitting that they expected Cassel to complete bomb after bomb ala Brady '07 and win games for this team. So if they deny it, in a sense, they are completely ******ed. But now that we've lost one game, most ignore the fact that the defense sucked, our offensive line was equally bad, and the running game was non-existant. Now people are sitting back expecting a career back-up that hadn't started a game since high school to overcome all of that and actually put up more than 38 points? I'm sorry, but I don't see where that logic comes from.

Yes...but he'll need help from the running game. Get teams to respect the running game and that will open play-action deep to Moss...think Steelers game last year.

Chris

Of course he can at least once .. maybe you meant
"Is a Cassel led Pats offense capable of scoring more than 21 points most of the time against defenses not in the top 10?"
or something like that.

Bingo.

They also just signed Price, supposedly Stallworth-like in his style of play. If we fix the OL issues a lot of good things could start to happen

NO for now and yesterday. I don't know about tomorrow.

From what i have seen, no!!!

I don't think anyone should be disappointed if Price doesn't change our offense at all. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't see the field. He's the 53rd man.

Any time soon? No way!

First of all, the o-line isn't exactly all-world. A new qb with suspect reading ability needs as much o-line support as possible. Cassel can't get beyond his second read. O-line collapse is part of it - but I also think he panics easily and he reads slow. I also donlt think he can throw left. On Sunday I saw Randy Moss in one on one coverage a hanfdul of times - no check off at the line....no nothing. You could see Cassel read 1....read 2....and then "oh sh*t"

Being annoying is consistent with being simple. Indeed, they often go hand in hand.

Stupid thread.

Then go away and butt out of this thread if you don't like it or don't want to answer it.

And Stop the annoying whining about people whining annoyingly - Its just as bad if not worse - simply pass on a thread if you think its not worthy of your royalty

And IMO a Cassel led offense without help from the defense would score about 300-320 points on the season 'at best'

I think they'll at least check him out- an option like him would be nice IF he looks good in practice. Who knows. I don't think he'd been released for very long before we got him, tho I'm not positive.

Oh yeah, I have no doubt they'll give him every chance to crack the gameday roster. And he has two weeks to get ready, which helps. My point was simply that I'm not going to be surprised if that doesn't happen, nor am I going to think it was a "bad move" like some are already calling it.

It is what it is, a try out during a two week stretch where some people banged up. If it becomes more than that, good for him and the Pats
