Never heard somebody say this before, anyone agree with him?

"We are now in an era of football where left and right tackle has become meaningless because the right tackle is open because of the spread formations. Right tackle has become hard to play because of the speed guys."

Full thing is here, fast forward to 22:00 to see what I'm talking about.

There's some truth to what he's saying, but there's still a major difference IMO: most QBs are right-handed, so the LT is still protecting the QBs blindside. That matters even in shotgun. Where I agree is that defenses have evolved to edge-rush more from the other side and up the middle.

They have to to survive because of all the rule changes that now make everyone throw all the time to exploit them. Polian, Dungy and Peyton are really the cause of it all, so if you're a RT now making a lot more $, send a thank you card to those 3 losers.

I wouldn't say it's meaningless, but it's certainly not priced anywhere close to where it should be. A lot of elite pass rushers now line up predominantly against the RT, like Mack, Miller and Beasley.

14 of the top 15 cap hits for tackles are guys playing on the left side. I'd rather pay Bryan Bulaga on the right side than almost double that for Matt Kalil on the left side. In today's NFL, you better be good at both, or you're going to get attacked on whatever weakness a team can expose.
