Jets coaching staff bragging to NYT writer how they scored an easy touchdown on Pats, due to their practicing a key play that "fooled" Mayo, Wilson, etc.

As the Jests have another failing season, they must feel the need to tell everyone how good they are, or Sparano is pimping for his next job:

Good football article, but the TD was not the key play on the drive - how about the three passes to Hill and Kerley for more than 15 yards that led to this TD? That was the killer 7-minute drive where the Patriots let Mark Sanchez look like the second coming of Otto Graham.

I particularly enjoyed the final result of that game.

Who cares... that green garbage lost the game.

That's all I care about

That's right, you won the battle, but forgot it's the victor of the war that matters most. Keep focusing on/winning the war Patriots .

Rush 2
Drop 9
Zone D

Given how tight that window was, it was really a stupid pass. Sanchez was lucky someone didn't stick a hand out to knock it off course and Mayo was a half step away from intercepting it.

Between the 5 and 10 yard-line the drop 9, rush 2 is a good strategy. It usually forces the offense to take the short run and burn up a play. Or the QB is throwing into a combination of zone and man-to-man, increasing the chances of a turnover. If you rush four or five, you're playing man-to-man coverage. Not something the Pats DBs are particularly good at. The defensive alignment on that particular play was not the problem.

The Jets executed a play and the NY Times devotes a full column to that. Big deal. Maybe, just maybe, the Patriots should have played a little defense in the previous 7 minutes to keep the Jets out of the Red Zone.

Kind of surprising the NYT played along with this silliness. No critical thinking there? How about "despite all their bragging and practice, the Jets still had to get very lucky to make their genius play work. And they lost anyway." How about a detailed analysis of how their vaunted D choked the final Pats possession in regulation and then in OT?

While they were one catch away from a rookie sealing the deal and winning a road game.. No offense should brag against this defense..

So the "genius" design of the play led to Sanchez having to make a perfect throw, in between two defenders, in order for a TD to happen? I don't know about you guys, but if I were the Jets OC and I drew up a play that required Sanchez to be pin-point accurate in order for it to work, I wouldn't be patting myself on the back.

I guess the Pats will just have to live with the game win since they lost out on the more important moral victory in that game.

The New York Jets....

Achieving moral victories since 1970.

Bollocks.

I just re watched the play (a few times over). First off, I have no idea how the author surmises that they rushed 2. That doesn't happen at all. Love and Wilfork rushed; as always. He specifically highlights how Nink rushed. That's 3. He also pointed out how Chandler Jones chipped the TE and rushed, instead of covering. So that's 4. 4 man rush.
