Interesting: FO Broken tackles 2013

doubt it.

How about looking a little bit lower on the list. Hightower was just as good.

Nothing we don't know regarding spikes. When he gets there, the play stops. Any breakdown of the percentage of plays he sees on the field and how many he gets there on? Don't expect to see Vereen breaking any Spikes tackles because Spikes isn't getting to vereen.

Spikes' low broken tackle rate can be attributed to one significant point; he was primarily played as a two down run stuffer who could bring the heat. The counterpoint to that is, in the passing game, teams would abuse Spikes by targeting his assignment knowing he didn't have the speed to play pass coverage.

If the Patriots can somehow land someone such as Ryan Shazier, Telvin Smith or Jordan Tripp then I would be pretty happy with a unit of Mayo, Hightower, Collins and a draft pick. From there, it's adding depth that will be the key.

Last chart on the page is a bright spot - among the best in the league, by this measure. Now throw in a bolstered secondary and one more significant pressure guy and... anybody else getting psyched to see how good the '14 D is?

Love watching the pieces fall into place... will love it more after we see what goodies santa leaves under the draft tree...
