Imagine if Vrabel had caught that pass against the Giants

With all due respect to Moss, that would truly have rocked.

Vrabel is my favourite Patriot.

Wouldn't have counted: illegal formation penalty.

A bogus one at that, if I recall correctly. Or was it Vrabel that wasn't lined up properly? I don't recall.

I love Vrabel, but I'm glad Brady and Moss broke the records on the same play.

It would've taken away Maroney's first touchdown, not anything else.

Doesn't it mean that Brady and Moss would not have gotten 50 and 23 on the same play?

Awful call. There were two te's covering each tackle. Vrabel was in motion. Knuchklehead ref said not enough on line of scrimmage. Thank god didn't cost us anything. We know NFL refs can't see very well. I didn't think they were that bad at counting though.

I understand that. My point, though, is that--if he had made the catch, and it counted--the photo would caption itself (think about it. . . .).

Ah, now I get it.

I don't believe that any ref said there weren't enough men on the line of scrimmage. I think that was only Collingsworth's speculation.

As I posted on another thread, I'm pretty sure the problem on that play was that Vrablel just forgot to report. So, when he covered the tackle, he was doing so with a non-TE number (50-79 must report to cover a tackle). He also was ineligible downfiled, but the formation problem occurred first.

The reasons that I believe he failed to report are detailed elsewhere on this board. Mostly it's from what I thought I saw the refs talking about. Also, the flag came a long time after the play, presumably after they conferenced to see whether he had reported. Also, when he runs off the field, he points to his number.

No better bill board than Mike Vrabel
