Oh, one more thing - MAJOR kudos for trading up to #10 with only a 3rd and a future 4th. If we do that and land, say, Hawk (prayer) or Huff, I'll be thrilled. Again, though, Lendale lasts until #21, I'm pretty sure.
My exact thoughts. Hooo-ahh.

Once again for the Coltpower mock draft. Like every year. So far this is how the Pats have done under my control.

After pick #9, I came to an principal agreement with the Arizona Cardinals GM. The Patriots have sent their first round selection (21st overall), a third round (86th overall) for the Arizona Cardinals first round pick (10th overall) and a 4th rounder next year.

With the 10th pick in the 2006 NFL Draft the New England Patriots selected:

Lendale White, RB, USC

With the 52nd pick in the 2006 NFL Draft the New England Patriots selected::

Danieal Manning, CB, Abilene Christian

On to the third round. I know the Manning pick is gunna get heat but I love the kid.

Edit: I forgot to add, Arizona made the selection at the time. They signed Edgerrin and the GM didn't want to hang on to 2 RB's. So I made the deal.

Ryan -
Do you even read the draft section of this page? Do you even understand Belichick's philosophy on drafting people? If you did, there is no way you would have made that trade then REACHED for LenDale White. Also, Daniel Manning? Do you do much research on players? Or did you just take the highest rated CB for the Pats that was available? Manning is a 3rd rounder if he's lucky. And you reach and take him in the second round and totally ignore issues that are BIGGER for the Pats than the 2 positions that you addressed.

If I had to grade that draft so far, Ryan, you failed.

The trade was great, what a steal! RB in the first round doesn't meet my value standard - but a good defensive player at 10 with a six year contract would.

Manning! Name recognition aside, there are any number of CBs with better stats and competition records to choose from. Not to mention NE's current gaps at WR and LB.

Ryan, Thanks for sharing and being a target for our wrath!

Yikes, that's pretty harsh. I don't care for the picks either, but he obviously didn't just throw a dart at the highest rated CB...you'd be hard pressed to find a mock that puts Manning above Minter, Zematis, Martin et al. Ryan started out by acknowledging that Manning was an unconventional pick based on his own strong opinion.

[edit] While I'm at it, though, sign me up for Manny Lawson and Joseph Addai in your draft.

The White pick was made two weeks ago. I think Dillon is finished and IMO, White will be the best RB in this draft. I would take him in a heartbeat at #10.

Wow, somebody let Houston know so they will not pick Reggie Bush. In fact, maybe Reggie will fall to our #21.

Ryan I believe that your picks have been made honestly with no intent to do smack on us Patriots fans.

Having said that, I do have one question. ARE YOU NUTS??

Corey still has another good year left in the tank for us. I think that it a year too early for us to be looking at a 1st round RB. Next years draft will have several good backs available. Also, I don't believe that we would trade up for anyone in this draft with the POSSIBLE exception of AJ Hawk.

I think that we may even trade down. There is a lot of value in this draft in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. If we go for a CB in the 2nd, it will be either Marshall or Griffin.

Ill just draft who Kiper says to next year.

or come here and let some of us answer

Patriots want: versatile. fast. smart. good character players

Patriots needs are:
OLB*starter
WR* possibly starter
RB*future
S* future if Harrison isnt ready
LB in General*depth
OL* Depth

not so much CB. if anything leadership from a veteran

Ok. So, do the ignorant thing. Don't read up on how BB approaches his drafting and how he rates players.

Getting the 10th pick for so little was great. Especially since the AZ owner sent you back a 4th in 2007.

However, what was the point of the trade? You say Dillon is done, but what is your support for that? I can give you 2 reasons that he isn't done. The injuries to the O-line and the injury that he had. There is also a question as to whether he gave himself enough time to get healthy again.

LenDale White isn't top 10 talent. If the Pats move to #10, they would be looking at AJ Hawk, Ngata, Jimmy Williams, or Michael Huff.

When evaluating a trade up in the 1st round, BB definitely takes into consideration how much that pick is going to cost money wise. And its highly unlikely that BB is going to invest a ton of money into RB this year when he already has almost 8 million tied up in Dillon and Faulk. That's why I question the trade up AND I question the pick of LenDale White. It doesn't make sense from a VALUE stand-point. Especially when OLB is a much BIGGER issue for the Pats than RB is.

Ryan, I won't pick on you because many times there is a run on a position, people ahead of you who you know won't trade so you move higher than you wished to get the guy you wanted...HOWEVER...

Ryan, Ryan, Ryan...you are supposed to say that Lendale White was #6 on your board and you like him because he fits the system and has had great coaching...come on...be prepared next time.

Actually, Manning is an intriguing prospect. But, I think that the second round is a little too high for him. Third or fourth or fifth might be where he lands, but we will see.

You made the White pick two weeks ago and you are standing by the trade and the pick? Just trying to understand the relevence of your saying it was made two weeks ago.

I was thinking this --- We trade up to #10 only if Hawk drops that far. Otherwise, not interested.

Ryan I'll give you credit for coming on the board and projecting the draft picks. While I tend to agree with people that rb is deep and we have other needs, there is NO WAY AJ HAWK is falling to the 10 spot. NO WAY!
Green Bay, San Fran, Buffalo and Detriot would never let this guys slip by them.

Very true, but consider these two points:

-Who was the last rookie LB that Belichick started in the defensive rotation?

-What is the general definition of 'value' in a first round pick (getting first round money)?

Last year we were down Phifer and Bruschi at the time of the draft, and Willie was still long in the tooth. Wasn't that just as obvious a time to draft LB? And yet we added FAs instead. Look at the drafted LBs since Piolichick has been running the show--Claridge, Banta-Cain...anyone I'm missing...? FA LBs--Cox, Vrabel, Phifer, Brown, Beisel, Davis, Izzo, Colvin, Brigance, Kurpeikis...

That's 10 FA LBs v. 2 drafted LBs--and looking at that list, see any Day 1 LBs?
