...then how about those Patriots". That was Bob Ryan's opening remark on the Sports Reporters just now. That was it, maybe more later. I like Ryan and I think he's pretty straight with the hometown teams, not just a homer.

Any one can win one off season title. We have a ways to catch up with the Redskins.

Go Team! Spend Team!

The Patriots aren't trying to win the SB in March . . . but sometimes you need more talent and we'd reached that point. Drafting at the end of the round every year and having teams overpay for your players in FA year after year wears on a team's talent base. It was time to bring some in and we did it.

I agree, but in addition I believe the NFL has changed with he increase in the salary cap and the Pats wise way of spending money has allowed them the splurge. I also have been waiting for free agents(AD, Stallworth, Washington) to take lesser money because of the Pat's attractiveness of winning.

All kidding aside, there is a difference between not being in debt, and spending in a "splurge" that still does not put you in debt, and foundering every year, throwing more money at big names than even they would expect, and letting them go in a couple years.

We shouldn't buy into the "Pats are cheap" mantra any more than the Pats themselves do. They just don't spend stupidly. This year's offseason kings of "whoops" are the Texans. It's the kind of WTF display that makes you glad your FO is staffed by pros instead of clueless desperate amateurs.

This "spree," to date, leaves us still well under the cap. Without getting into the wisdom of spending at the outset of a period of high inflation (my own pet theory,) I'm pretty impressed not just that the team is reloading significantly, but with how they're doing it.

just my .02,

I don't believe you can win a title in march but you can start the run....we stocked up and know we are starting to strengthen up and soon we will get some youth....and before you know it we will be playing games...and winning titles...

Zactly right. In many ways there is no offseason.

Good teams can become great teams by making intelligent, foresighted signings and putting their draft picks to best use. These are the teams that improve themselves.

Then there are those that make a killing on draft day and during FA but have no idea how to best utilize the talents they've acquired. These are the teams who improve on paper but nothing translates onto the field.
